Our neighbor across the street was quite the HOOT! She once told me, in her very heavy Southern accent, that her name is Miss Cora May. Because she was born in the month of May. I told her that was born in the month of October so call me Miss Mark October. Cora laughed and said it doesn’t work that way. Cora was in her late 80’s when she called one day and said “Mark come over right now I need HELP!!!” We ran over…. there was Miss Cora May in front of her home. She told us that all these people just started to paint her house. We reminded her that she has signed up for the “Paint Your Heart Out Tampa” project. They were all painting her home for free because they loved her. Miss Cora May than said that she had better get inside and start making lemonade for everybody.

Back in the 1980’s we had a fun friend. His name was Jack Watts. He was a retired funeral director, owner of the Tampa Cinema and was very active in the MCC Tampa Church. Jack loved to host backyard garden parties. At one of these parties we asked what his neighbors were like? Jack said that next door was a very nice quiet couple from Cuba, that he really liked a lot.
Jack went on to say he was just a little confused about the children. He couldn’t tell if they had 1 boy and 2 girls or 2 boys and 1 girl. They must all be singing in a church choir because they were always carrying in and out choir gowns. The kids sometimes rehearsed in there back yard.
Many years went by after Jack passed away. We were talking with a good friend and …….. she mentioned in conversation the street she lived on. It was the same as Jacks. Then asked if she knew Jack?
YES,  he lived right next door and my parents were good friends of him too. The “KIDS” in 1980’s living next door and outside playing to Jack were Miss Esme Russell. https://www.facebook.com/esme.russell3

Everybody loves Arthur!!! He is a very unique person with a special place in our hearts. One example is. Two couples came to the balcony at Hamburger Mary’s. They were very excited to see me (Tea Cup). The couples asked if I remembered them?? I laughed and said “Yes I gave you my card and you never called me!!” We all were laughing. The couples from Chicago told me that they were here 3 years ago and stopped by before going on a cruise. Now I was a tradition. Arthur then walked up  and with out a introduction as to who they were said…… “How was your cruise?” They looked puzzled. Arthur actually actual said “You know the Carnival Paradise. The last time you were here you were going on the Paradise. I like that boat and have been on it.” Then Arthur walked away. The couples asked how did he know that? He is right it was the Paradise we were on the last time! Arthur’s memory  is incredible. Love me some Arthur

Parents can say the darndest things. I grew up in Minnesota the home of PNR (Public National Radio)  and the show “Prairie Home Companion Lake Wobegon.” Minnesota values include hard working, simple honesty and sharing. One day my Dad asked me to go with him to buy a new kitchen table to surprise Mom. Of course it had to be prairie simple and wood. We picked out a table with 4 chairs. Then my Dad starts a very Minnesota debate with the salesperson. He tells them…  “The table sits against one wall so I only need 3 chairs.” They explain that it only comes with 4 chairs. The very polite debates starts all over again. Ends with “Sir we will have to charge you for 4 chairs.” Dad says “that OK give the 4th chair to somebody who needs 5 chairs.” We load the table & 3 chairs into the truck and go home. When we arrive home there is Mom & Dad, Me & Carrie. Mom asks were is the 4th chair? Dad.. Didn’t need it so I gave it to somebody else. Mom but there 4 people her right now. Dad they are leaving tomorrow. LMAO  Welcome to “Prairie Home Companion Lake Wobegon!!!” http://www.npr.org/podcasts/381444601/a-prairie-home-companion-news-from-lake-wobegon

It’s Girl Scout Cookie season again. When we were the owners of MC Film, every year one of our distributors would call and say, “It’s girl scout cookie time again. What’s your favorite we are going to buy you a box? Would you like to buy any more?” The first years he was helping his daughters buy cookies. Then 20 years later he was helping his grand daughters. Every year his family were the top sellers in their area. We would tease that he was a big girl scout at heart! When the big box would come……… There in the box were our cookies. Did we mention that he was a distributor of sexual lubricants and sex toys? LOL YES Boxes of cookies and lube

In 2007 a group of like minded people with common goals came together. This is the GaYbor District Coalition. The following year they decided to make the group more formal and official. The non profit form for the IRS 501.c(3) is very long and complicated. One of the owners of Streetcar Charlie’s was also a attorney and he offered to do it for us. Months went by and we asked about the application. He was working on it. After many months of this the board said that they would finish it themselves. Then asked the attorney for what he already had done. His answered was he had not started it and had zero. This same owner/attorney went on to do many bizarre things. Years ago a wise older Gay person told us “Just because somebody is LGBT, doesn’t mean you can trust them.” How very true.  Fast forward to 2017 and now this….. From ABC Action News.

TAMPA, Fla. – Hiring a lawyer may be one of the most important decisions you will ever make, but when an attorney fails to represent their clients’ best interest, the fallout can be devastating.

As the I-Team uncovered, a local attorney is now under suspension by the Florida Bar, after bank records show he spent nearly a million dollars of clients’ money at casinos, gun stores and fancy restaurants.

“We loved that house. It hurt to leave,” said Janet Crawford.

Janet and her husband Tom hired Tampa attorney James Lee Clark to save their Wesley Chapel home from foreclosure.

“We were getting behind in payments on the house. My husband was sick, he had a heart attack,” said Janet Crawford.

They paid Clark thousands, then followed his advice and signed their deed over to a company owned by Clark’s paralegal and former roommate Eric Liebman.

“They all worked together. They seemed like they were a team. And I trusted my lawyer,” said Janet Crawford.

The Crawfords moved out, after they say they were told Liebman would pay them $5,000 and the bank would forgive their loan.

But they say they got nothing.

Liebman quickly leased the house to another of Clark’s clients, who made a down payment and made monthly payments for nearly two years, believing they were leasing to own  the home.

She filed for bankruptcy to try to keep the bank from taking it, but the bank ended up foreclosing, giving them just days to move out.

The Crawfords didn’t know that Clark had been placed on probation by the Florida Bar while he was handling their case for failing to diligently represent other clients.

“I didn’t do research. I should have done research,” said Janet Crawford.

“It appears as though Mr. Clark removed over $900,000 of my client’s money,” said Morgan & Morgan Attorney L. Reed Bloodworth.

Bloodworth’s clients are now suing Clark, alleging Clark took money the client received from selling two assisted living facilities.

“I don’t know if that are any assets left to recover for my clients,” Bloodworth said.

The Florida Bar subpoenaed hundreds of pages of bank records related to that case, which appear to show Clark transferred money from his client’s trust accounts into his own bank account.

They show Clark spent more than $518,000 at the Hard Rock Casino, $13,000 at bars and liquor stores, $21,000 at gun stores and $17,000 on meals at a casino steakhouse.

Clark also paid for vacations in the Bahamas, London, Paris and Amsterdam.

“Using other people’s money to enjoy himself, it makes me pissed off. I want him disbarred and thrown in jail as well,” said Janet Crawford.

The Florida Supreme Court issued an emergency suspension of Clark’s law license, which went into effect last month.

After multiple attempts to locate Clark, we found him working on his BMW at his South Tampa home, which is under foreclosure.

“I can’t talk about it. I’m sorry,” Clark told us.

“Hiring an attorney is an important decision, whatever that matter may be. I think clients should look into their attorneys,” said Bloodworth.

Bloodworth says clients should consult the Bar and avoid attorneys who have been in trouble.

The Crawfords agree.

“Get comments from other people. Check it out before you sign on any dotted line,” Janet Crawford said.

“Do the footwork or you could end up like my wife and myself,” said Tom Crawford.

You can log on to the Florida Bar’s website to find out if any licensed attorney has been disciplined.

TAMPA, Fla. – A new twist tonight in an I-Team Investigation we first brought you Monday.

A Tampa attorney who the Florida Bar is investigating now plans to surrender his law license.

James Lee Clark is currently facing three investigations by the Florida Bar.

In a document he filed last week with the Florida Supreme Court, Clark agreed to surrender his license in exchange for the bar dismissing the pending disciplinary cases against him.

Clark is accused of misappropriating nearly a million dollars from a client’s trust account.

Bank records subpoenaed by the Florida Bar show he gambled away more than $500,000 at casinos and spent tens of thousands of dollars on liquor, guns, steak dinners and overseas trips.

Another complaint alleges Clark agreed to rent his South Tampa home, but never moved out and kept the tenants’ money.

A third client complained to the Bar that Clark made an unauthorized $25,000 charge on her credit card.

Clark was disciplined by the bar in 2014 for failing to provide diligent representation to three other clients.

By petitioning the Florida Supreme Court to have his license revoked, Clark does not have to make any admissions regarding the complaints.

Clark did not want to talk to us about the allegations.

The Bar cannot prosecute criminal cases, but does notify authorities if there is evidence a crime has been committed.

Young amateur drinkers say the darndest things! This young girl with Big attitude actually said, “I will have a Gin and fresh squeezed pineapple juice.”
I just smiled and said… “Can I see your ID please.” She told me that she was 23 and never carried her ID.
I then said, “Well then, would you like a soda or tea?”
She just could not believe how I spoiled her night. LMAO

You Just Can Not Make This Up

Several years ago our friend Rich was working in a Gay Bar. It was New Year’s Eve and he had ordered  a tank of compressed air to blow up the balloons for a balloon drop at midnight. There were a couple of new bar backs working that night. Rich asked them to fill the balloons for the drop. When he came back alter the bag was full of balloons. Rich asked how did it go? The guys said it was tricky getting all the balloons into the netting bag, but they did it. Midnight came and…… they pulled the string to release the balloons and all the balloons went up not down. The company had delivered a tank of helium instead of plain compress air!!! Rich yelled everybody grab  a pool stick and pop the balloons!!!

Ybor City is the most wonderful unique place on Earth!!! The locals live their lives by 4 simple rules.
#1 Don’t Judge, #2 Don’t Criticize, #3 Don’t Complain, #4 Just Get Involved with the Community!!
Almost any goes and is enjoyed by everybody. So it shouldn’t have been surprising that during the Holidays there were 2 very large Christmas Parties going on. The Santa Jingle Bell Ball and Hallucination Before Christmas  https://www.facebook.com/hbcevent/ .
Late in the evening a homeless street guy stopped a police car in the middle of 7th Ave. We could tell he was very upset and the police officer got out of his car to follow the homeless guy…. the homeless guy took the office to a door way. There was a drunken Santa passed out…cold. The police called an ambulance. The ambulance came. The homeless guy never left Santa’s side and walked next to him on a stretcher to the ambulance.
After the ambulance left the homeless guy went back and sat down on the streets, asking for money.
We walked over and gave him $10 he said, “Thanks now I have enough to stay in the shelter tonight.”
He got up and walked away. At times it’s easy to forget that homeless are people with hearts too.
