Orlando Gay Day’s Magic  Weekend

G.BAR Closing Party
Another end of an era happened this past weekend in GaYBOR/ Ybor City, G.BAR closed. The space will reopen as Southern Nights Tampa on June 18th. The G.BAR family was a very close family that we were lucky to be a part of. Before the doors opened our camera was invited in for one last time. Co-owners Stephen Moss and Steve Donahue at the last weekly helm of 450 weeks celebrated all the memories with great wit and sincerity that were accomplished by the bartenders, greeters and staff and of course, you the weekly invited guests. Below are those bar cast members last group photos. The doors opened to 1000’s of friends and fans later and the lines never quit or seem to shorten all night long.
Many people in attendance came from all over the country to relive their memories of G. Bar! Everyone were reminiscing on all the 1st that happened there for them. Their 1st Gay Bar experience. First Love(s). First legal drink. The memorable crazy decorated theme parties. The talented national acts including Lady Gaga and dozens of other international top pop artists performing. The new friends and lasting relationships. The first times went on and on to a packed standing ovation of fond period era of recollections.
Some of the staff will be staying with the new club. Others will be at The Honey Pot every weekend.  THANK YOU to Stephen, Steve & Ernie for a GREAT PARTY!!!

Don Vicente De Ybor Historic Inn Closes
The grand famed madame in historic Ybor City is the renowned Don Vicente De Ybor Historic Inn. It is the oldest building in Ybor City. The records go back to its history as a print shop, construction site for Ybor Square, and then historic Gonzalez Medical Clinic and Hospital.
The change to making it a bright spot with 16 charming adorned boutique rooms. The tall ceiling airy ness, big windows and balconies and the most comfortable beds were worth the stay alone. Often being telecast on Halloween week for its past of being a very haunted building with many ghosts sightings and experiences throughout the hotel from Basement to each of the 2 stories of rooms.
The challenges of a major makeover by Jack Shiver had him looking for wood paneling for his magical wood dream palace. Another Ybor renovation and love of the quaint historic diverse city.
A full book (many) of renovations and history had been on display in the major event room near the open bar. What an experience. The next generation held the realm with Darian and Tessa bringing together community projects, business operations and memorable parties in the large staircase paneled rooms.
The many friends, neighbors, business owners, past overniters, wedding planners, florists and caters all shared stories of the grand dame. What will happen next? Many ideas had been thrown about but we really never heard a finite project.
Oh well, that is part of the ever changing landscape of historic Ybor City.

Travel: Poetry Ridge B & B, Greenfield, MA
What a time of year to visit the beautifully draped Berkshire Mountain range in mid April. Colds wet weather and even large banks of snow on the hillsides were still very visible. The early break through of spring multi colored Tulips and Daffodils were all over the hilly roadsides. I had never been past New York City but a big Noble Cousin’s Family Reunion was being held in the triangle of Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont where 1700/1800 era homes still remain, This mini vacation was adventurous as I drove my sister and brother to our cousins, Errol & Mary’s 11 acre famed hilltop 1912 built, Poetry Ridge B&B in Greenfield, MA to meet up with 30 other relatives from across America. The beautiful Inn sits along the Connecticut River and offers 6 famed poets namesake rooms and 4 large servant quarters.
Frederick Goddard Tuckerman,, John Greenleaf Whittier, James Russell Lowell, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Henry Wentworth Longfellow and classic Emily Dickinson poets rooms.  History Buff Tourists of all types come from around the world to see the historic homes of the Northeast and I am part of the interested.
The hillsides are a multitude of a variety big oaks, red maples, pines, birch and ash trees that cover all the scenic hillways and border the winding highways.
On our sites to visit included the famed artist Norman Rockwell Museum and Home in Stockbridge, the many number of still being utilized covered bridges, Deerfield – an historic city of 1700-1900 era homes of about 40 residences for inspection and tours then besides the cousins reunion chats. The weather was chilly and often overcast and rainy. That made for great inside ventures to be visited.
Super cousins, Innkeepers, chefs and tour guides. Make a reservation for a restful enchanting get a way.

GOING OUT OF BUSINESS
For the past 26 years MC Film has proudly served The Tampa Bay LGBT Community. The building that we rent for our store is in the process of being sold and turning into a bar complex. . At this time there are no other locations available in Ybor City to move to. We came to the sad decision to liquidate everything in the store. Almost everything is now 20% OFF. On a personal note. We actually are good friends with our landlords and are happy for them. We will remain good friends with them for many more years to come.

You Can Not Make this Up.

Remember when you were young children and would get caught doing something suspiciously wrong by the squinting neighbor lady? This past week Miss Esme Russell was on her way to work, out of make-up full of positivism and going to Hamburger Mary’s in Centro Ybor.
There in the holiday decorated 7th Ave courtyard were some kids trying to put rave posters on the big Christmas Tree. With out any hesitation Esme dropped her bags and ran up to the kids shouting in English then Spanish or both.
“Don’t be messing with the Gay’s Christmas tree!!! You go home to your own houses and mess up your straight trees…. LEAVE THE GAY’s TREE ALONE!!!!”
The kids stunned went running down 7th Ave after the scolding!  I bet those kids will be talking about this for the rest of their lives!!!
     Leave the Gay’s tree alone!!!!!!!
