For the past 26 years MC Film has proudly served The Tampa Bay LGBT Community. The building that we rent for our store is in the process of being sold and turning into a bar complex. . At this time there are no other locations available in Ybor City to move to. We came to the sad decision to liquidate everything in the store. Almost everything is now 20% OFF. On a personal note. We actually are good friends with our landlords and are happy for them. We will remain good friends with them for many more years to come.

Gulfport First Friday Art Walk – Friday February 6

GULFPORT, FL- Shop local and support the talented independent artisans and craftsmen at work all along Beach & Shore Boulevards, as well as the works of local authors and entertainers stretched over a half-mile up and down scenic Beach Boulevard. Live musicians, including Chicago Rich, Dean Johanesen, Hector and others appear during each art walk at venues throughout the historic waterfront district. Art Walks take place twice a month from 6-10pm on First Fridays and Third Saturdays, year round.

Mad Beach Winter Bike Fest – Sunday February 15

MADEIRA BEACH, FL: The City of Madeira Beach and SIK Promotions, Inc. present the 3^rd in a series of Mad Beach Bike Fests! Madeira Beach revs up for the Winter Bike Fest on Sunday, February 15, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. along Madeira Way. Motorcycle enthusiasts will be showing off their classic, antique, new and customized motorcycles from all eras. Food vendors and others offering bike-related gear will be on hand.

A 10-class bike show judged by Full Throttle Magazine as well as a fund-raising “People’s Choice” trophy will be held from 10 AM to 3 PM with registration running from 10 AM to 2 PM. Register in one class for $10 and increase your chance of winning by registering for additional classes for only 5 bucks each. Bike show awards will be presented at 3:15 PM and 12 awards will be given in the following categories: ladies, antique, bagger, trike, import, sport bike, paint, custom, chopper/bobber, anything goes, best of show and people’s choice. Try your luck at the 50/50 drawing and at the live auction, which will take place at the main stage near the Old Oar House. Items to be auctioned are still coming in and will be on display during the show. Silent bids made throughout the day will determine the starting minimum bid for the live portion of the auction. Live music is planned all day from 10-4 PM.

Gulfport Third Saturday Art Walk – Saturday, February 21

Gulfport, FL: Gulfport is thee place to be on February 21st to celebrate the Third Saturday Art Walk. The Gulfport Art Walk event features new artists every first Friday and third Saturday each month and includes several different sculpture and paint mediums, jewelry, photography, folk art, upcycled items, handmade/designed clothing and accessories, body products and more.

Gulfport’s Get Rescued – Saturday, February 28

GULFPORT, FL: Gulfport’s Get Rescued, the animal rescue festival and fundraiser, is preparing for its 11th annual event to take place on Saturday, February 28th, 2015 from 10am to 6pm. This popular event has evolved from one block and a handful of animal rescue groups in its first year to a popular and festive event representing rescue groups from throughout the region. Gulfport’s Get Rescued is one of the largest animal rescue events in the state, with all profits to benefit participating non-profit rescue groups. Animal rescue organizations, many appearing with adoptable pets, take over Beach Blvd. to raise money and awareness for their causes. Additionally, animal-related vendors, artists and crafters offer their wares to festival-goers. Pet Related activities will include a pet parade with domestic and adoptable pets, pet care education, pet services, a pet food and supplies drive, animal rescue groups, free samples, training demos, Canine Massage, a Bark-B-Q, food, music & more. Each year, thousands of attendees, many accompanied by their own critter companions, make their way to Gulfport to participate in what has become a beloved tradition. Well behaved pets and their leashed people are welcome! The daytime event is free for the public to attend, with plenty of free parking in and around the area.

Visitors and attendees are encouraged to bring donations of dog and cat food, cat litter and pet supplies. Drop-off locations will be conveniently located on Beach Blvd at the intersections of 128^th Ave S and Shore Blvd or at Salty’s. Donations prior to event day can also be dropped off at Pasadena Pet Motel at 6735 Gulfport Blvd S, South Pasadena, Perfect Copy and Print- 4195 54^th Ave. N. Get Rescued will offer a way to send messages to loved pets who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge through purchasing an environmentally friendly luminary, writing a brief message and joining us at Gulfport Beach, (across from Beach Haus) on Feb 28^th at 6 PM. Purchasers are not required to be present when the luminarias are floated into the Bay. One can purchase a part of the luminary for $1.00 for their message or an entire luminary for $5.00. Luminarias can be purchased prior to event day at the weekly Gulfport Tuesday Fresh Market and during the First Friday and Third Saturday Art Walks. Luminarias will also be available for purchase on event day Beach Haus at 3128 Beach Boulevard South, Gulfport. Proceeds from luminary sales will benefit participating rescue groups.

GULFPORT, FL: The Get Rescued evening celebration, Tails at Twilight, is a popular component of a full day of festivities that begin with Gulfport’s Get Rescued, the beloved annual street festival and fundraiser held on Beach Blvd. on the same day. Later in the evening, after the pets have gone to bed, all are invited to a lively evening of fun for humans that will also donate to the important cause of animal rescues. The evening will include fun music and dancing, catered hors d’oeuvre, a cash bar, and festive décor will add to the party atmosphere. Opportunity drawings will take place during the evening. Proceeds from ticket sales, after expenses, will be donated to rescue groups participating in the evening event. Remember when you were young children and would get caught doing something suspiciously wrong by the squinting neighbor lady? This past week Miss Esme Russell was on her way to work, out of make-up full of positivism and going to Hamburger Mary’s in Centro Ybor.

There in the holiday decorated 7th Ave courtyard were some kids trying to put rave posters on the big Christmas Tree. With out any hesitation Esme dropped her bags and ran up to the kids shouting in English then Spanish or both.

“Don’t be messing with the Gay’s Christmas tree!!! You go home to your own houses and mess up your straight trees…. LEAVE THE GAY’s TREE ALONE!!!!”

The kids stunned went running down 7th Ave after the scolding! I bet those kids will be talking about this for the rest of their lives!!!

Leave the Gay’s tree alone!!!!!!!

Annual AIDS WALK in St. Pete September 6th

This year marks the 11th Annual AIDS WALK Tampa Bay will be held in the Vinoy Park in St. Petersburg with a goal this year of $150,000. AIDS Service Association of Pinellas, (ASAP) organization serves the Tampa Bay community that have HIV/AIDS.

You can sign up now to walk with a team group or by yourself, donate money for a walker or become a volunteer. The kickoff for registration starts at 8 AM and the 2.5 mile Walk starts at 10 AM. You can also sign up on line at www.ASAPServices.org.

Among other ASAP sponsored events includes MISS ASAP Pageant, World AIDS DAY, Dine Out For Life and the Annual Santa Speedo Run held in GaYBOR District in historic Ybor City in early December.

ASAP, has been serving the area for 26 years, is a not-for profit organization that offers free HIV testing,
prevention education, counseling, support services, and other programs to members of the Tampa Bay Region. Currently ASAP serves over 1000 residents, which includes ASAP’s Pediatric AIDS program that supports over 125 children.

Tampa City Council Gives Praise to GaYBOR and Holiday Spirit

Tampa City Council gave high praise and a Commendation to Florida Entertainment Group owner, D. Stephen Moss and Snow on 7th Holiday celebration coordinator Mathieu Stonach for the annual month long Holiday event held in historic Ybor City and in the GaYBOR District.

This is the 3rd annual holiday festival which includes many family themed events. The lighting of the Ybor City 34′ Christmas Tree in Centro Ybor by Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn kicks off the seasonable events. Also a Snow on 7th Parade including 18 high school bands participating as glittering snow falls from the cascade of Ybor buildings.

Tampa Councilwoman Yolie Capin gave the commendation in the Tampa City Council Chambers. This years holiday night parade will be Saturday, December 13th starting at 7pm.

St Pete Pride Retro… 2004

In its second year, the area Gay Pride was St Pete Pride “Carnivale” and the themed Gay event hit the streets on Grand Central Ave in St. Petersburg. The parade date is set to remember Stonewall, the New York City Gay riots that were the start of the Gay Revolution June 26th 1969!

The Pride contingents included large & small businesses, clubs and organizations that came from all over Pinellas and Hillsborough County including Tampa’s City Side, KIKIKI 3 and the MCC Tampa floats. The 10 AM parade beginning always starts with the clearing of the streets by the Dykes on Bike’s 100+ motorcyclists. The girls from the Tampa Police Dept had their Harley’s shining!

Georgie’s Alibi started a 6 am out doors breakfast with Bloody Mary’s and Mimosas and MCC King Of Peace St. Pete with a pancake breakfast benefit for all the parade attendees. Hundreds of St. Pete Pride volunteers took to their responsibilities to maintain and keep order with utmost safety first. Suncoast Resort had its float a twitter with drag queens plus getting ready for the humongous concert on Sunday night. Peppers Bar and the Oar House had a huge bus called Priscilla filled with patrons. The northern Clearwater bar Pro Shop had a trolley with some of its patrons and area gay couples group.

Not to be outdone was our MC FILM limo, HRH Princess Priscilla flanked the parking lot with stilt walking Mark and rainbow dazzling Judy B. Goode with Glen White and myself driving and waving Rainbow Flags.

We took personal pride by being the ambassadors in getting a number of over-the-bridge (Tampa) groups and bars taking an active part. There was families walking with pride to Krewe of Cavaliers joining the Pride ranks on central Avenue. Even though the St Pete City Council signed a positive St Pete Pride Proclamation recognition, the St. Pete City Mayor Rick Baker did not!

Our Interesting Community

Our favorite part of the GaYBOR District Coalition Meetings is to learn about what else is going on in our community. At the recent meeting PFLAG talked about “REFUGE Restrooms”. There is now a app/web site that will tell everybody (Especially the Trans Community) where gender neutral or safe restrooms are.

It is interesting when you type in Tampa. Also at the meeting we learned about Francis House up coming “Strike Out For Aids” event. George Petrick talked about filming a new LGBT film in GaYBOR. Meet… Margaret Murray

New Executive Director of the Tampa International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival

Margaret Murray is a film curator and festival director with more than 15 years experience leading arts organizations to greater visibility and profitability.

She is currently overseeing the 25th Anniversary celebration for the Tampa International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, where she is the Executive Director.

From 2006 to 2009, Murray served as Executive Director for One in Ten, producer of the Reel Affirmations Film Festival in Washington, DC. While there, she founded the highly successful Divas Outdoors classic film series and the Glamour, Glitter and Gold Oscars night fundraiser, now in its fifth year.

Murray is the creator of Movies that Move, an award-winning pop-up film series and has curated programs for the Salvador Dali Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts, First Night celebrations, and Women Artists Rising.

She currently serves on the boards of Studio 620 and Friends of the Jack Kerouac House. She lives in St. Petersburg, FL where she is completing her M.A. in Arts Administration.

Get ready for a WILD and Educational week in Tampa! The International Indian Film Academy Awards ( iifa) will be here April 23-26. An estimated crowd matching March Madness attendances has been mentioned. India Movie Stars, producers , directors and VIP’s are taking over downtown Tampa and also the big Raymond James Stadium transforming into a ‘very elaborate movie showhouse’ the India promoters said.

The Special Cross- the- Ocean Event is in conjunction associated with multiple government sponsorships including private groups, Hillsborough County, Visit Tampa Bay and the City of Tampa.

The attendees and VIP’s are receiving the “Green Carpet” treatment that is India tradition just like our Red Carpet VIP events. Most of the visitors are Hindu and vegetarians. Miss GaYBOR 2014 Pageant Weekend

The Annual Miss GaYBOR Pageant 2014 is set for Sunday at the Honey Pot. This years theme is “All That Shines.” Last year over 10 beautiful entrants competed with Miss Nicole Monet taking the prestigious Miss GaYBOR 2013 title crown. Ghost, the Musical at Straz Center

The wave of the future imagery in play performances was reveled at the newly produced “Ghost, the Musical” now being performed on stage for the Best of Broadway series this week at Tampa’s downtown Straz Performing Art Center. A special thanks to Troika Entertainment and Michael Coppel for the plays reinterpretation and concept.The theater entry has signage letting attending audience members know before hand of the use of strobe lights, fog and explosive sounds. Yes, this multi tech usage will be more prominent in future play productions.

The stage is set and it is not a replay of the 1990’s 10 Oscars nominated and many won thriller ghostly movie that starred Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg. That was a real romantic tear jerker with gross receipts of over $500 million.

The orchestra gets the audience situated and offers obscure projectioned moving visuals tiered all around the stage, movie clips in black & white of the performing cast members in similar situations being performed on stage, graphic overlays added to the mystique of the unknown sites of light, subways moving in 3D , Wallstreet ticker boards and of lofty rain showers. All very cleverly done.

This is in a Broadway musical play performance with 16 new musical numbers. The play diverted into new imaginative directions. All the better to grasps the audiences attention. A perfect play for the renowned Straz Center.

Help Tim Bryant Fight Cancer

Late last year Tim was diagnosed with cancer. In February 2014 he was able to finally obtain Obama Care that covered his preexisting condition. He is currently being treated at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa Florida and undergoing Chemotherapy along with VERY PAINFUL radiation treatments. As a result he is unable to work.

This week he was denied disability to help cover the cost of his medications and care. His out of pocket expenses are thousands of dollars for is medical care co-payments and medications. He is responding well to treatment but has had some setbacks and a long battle ahead of him Tim is a strong, giving and wonderful person who has never asked for anything in his life.

We are asking Friends, Family and the Local community to help. Please help Tim to overcome this adversity and to get better soon!

Donations Sought For New Gulfport Library LGBTQ Collection

GULFPORT, FLORIDA: The non-profit Circle of Friends of the Gulfport Public Library has announced its intention to create a new LGBTQ Resource Center at the Library, bringing together books, periodicals and other media in a special collection that will serve as a community resource for Pinellas County and Florida. The Resource Center would be the first of its kind for a public library in the State of Florida.

A subcommittee of the Circle of Friends has been formed to chart a course toward developing and maintaining the LGBTQ (Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender/Queer) collection. The committee is now actively seeking donations of books, CD’s, DVD’s, periodicals and other media which may be useful additions to the new collection. Donated items should be in new or gently used condition. Members of the public interested in donating materials may bring or send them to the front desk of the Gulfport Public Library (5501 28^th Avenue South, Gulfport, FL 33707). Please label your donations accordingly if they are specifically intended for the LGBTQ collection. Committee members reserve the right to add donated items to their book sales inventory for fund-raising if items are not suitable for the collection.

Monetary donations are also welcome and are tax-deductible. For this purpose, please make any checks payable to the Circle of Friends of the Gulfport Public Library and note that the donation is intended for the LGBTQ Collection.
