Romney Funded Prop 8 Through Anti-Gay Group, Documents Reveal
 Mitt Romney’s political action committee contributed $10,000 to help pass California’s Proposition 8, but did so through a hard-to-detect PAC donation to the National Organization for Marriage, according to documents provided to the Human Rights Campaign by a whistle-blower at NOM. “It’s clear now that Romney was a major financial donor to Prop 8, but it’s also clear that his campaign very cleverly hid this contribution,” said Fred Sainz, HRC’s vice president for communications. NOM was a key player in the passage of Proposition 8, which ended legal marriage for same-sex couples in California. The Huffington Post
New Poll Finds Baldwin Ahead of Generic Republican
 Rep. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., an openly Lesbian candidate for the U.S. Senate from Wisconsin, leads a generic Republican candidate by five percentage points in a new NBC News/Marist poll. Four GOP primary candidates are vying to face Baldwin in November.

Alabama Exhibit Features Lesbian-led Southern Families
The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute is featuring a photo exhibit of lesbian couples and lesbian-led families in what is the organization’s first LGBT-themed exhibit in its 20-year history. “Living in Limbo: Lesbian Families in the Deep South,” features the photographs of Carolyn Sherer, an out lesbian who says the intent of the project is to start a conversation about equality.
Miss Universe Organization Reconsiders Transgender Contestant
Jenna Talackova, a 23-year-old transgender woman, may get to compete in the Miss Universe Canada competition despite being disqualified last week over her gender identity. The Miss Universe Organization, headed by Donald Trump, released a statement this week saying Talackova would be able to compete as long as she meets the gender recognition requirements under Canadian law.

With spring comes the Annual GaYBOR Easter Bonnet Bar Hop this Sunday at 5:00 starting at JJ’s Cafe on 7th Ave.. Hundreds dress in their Easter finest and colorful outfits to sample GaYBOR establishments favorite shots and adult beverages. A great chance to explore the bars and clubs of Ybor City, meet new friends and help the GaYBOR District Coalition. 12 bars and clubs are on the Sunday tour including JJ’s Cafe, The Bricks, Reservoir Bar, Centro Cantina, Barbarellas, Crowbar, Hamburger Mary’s, Gaspar’s Grotto, Liquid Tampa, Bradley’s on 7th and Collage.

Fiesta Italiana Weekend
Another great upcoming weekend of culinary artistry and garlic basil filling the air all around Centennial Park. in historic Ybor City. This Sunday it is all Italian cooking and eating in the parks square. Thousands from all over the state and Italy attend this local heritage celebration. The Annual Festa Italiana event is a fundraiser for the Italian Club on 7th Ave. Also in the weekends events are the Italian Movie Night, Wine Making Events Thursday, Bocce Ball Tournament Saturday and live music performances all weekend.

Over a century ago, L’Unione Italiana was founded by a small visionary group who realized that by uniting together, the Italian community of Tampa could overcome many of the social and economic challenges that confronted those “turn-of-the-century” immigrants from Italy.

Since reaching our 100 year anniversary of this venerable organization, we now become the “turn-of-the-century Italians. Because of the courage, imagination, resiliency and pride that our ancestors brought to this country and instilled in us, we find ourselves, at the end of this century, so much better off socially, economically and educationally than our immigrant ancestors were. The image of the gaunt, threadbare, and downtrodden immigrants carrying suitcases has been replaced by the appearance of thriving, frequently fashionable, and confident entrepreneurs, educators and professionals carrying briefcases.

The significant transformation in both the status and the stature of Tampa’s Italian-American community, now well into its fourth generation, has provided us with new challenges, evolving needs, and concerns much different than those which faced our predecessors. As a result, the formulas by which L’Unione Italiana has operated for over a century no longer effectively served the needs of modern Italians. Since L’Unione Italiana does, indeed, aspire to serve the modern Italians as effectively as it served those early immigrants, we must re-direct our goals to reflect more accurately the interests, identities and profiles of today’s Italian-American population. Brunch starts at 11:30 at Hamburger Mary’s complete with a Gospel Drag Show, Green Iguana & Gaspar’s Grotto. After brunch it’s time to shop shop shop… Starting at MC Film where all the newest Spring Beach & Dancer fashions are arriving daily. Then it’s time to relax with a frozen drink from Centro Canteen or a Great Cigar & Cuban Coffee at King Corona. Another fun thing to do is meeting up with the local LGBT Community to catch up on what’s new at Bradley’s on 7th , Liquid Tampa, The Reservoir or the new Sand Bar just to name a couple places. You can also always take in a movie at Centro Muvico or go for a romantic stool thru Centennial Park. 4PM and the Party kicks into high gear at The GaYBOR T-Dance at Barbarella’s.
Every week there are special surprises here. 3 incredible Florida Bars, inside outside and on the roof top you will find Tea Cup behind the bar!!! The Sunday Fun Day party at Liquid Tampa also features weekly entertainment & wonderful guest DJs. SKINS Tampa is now hosting quarterly Total Nude Nights until 4 AM. In 1997 the then owners, Joey Livingston & the late John Moore, were at MC Film shopping for Lucy memorabilia  for their new North of Tampa campground, Sawmill Campground. MC Film was invited the first year to come up on the weekends to sell rainbow pride things in the party building. The next year the Suncoast Resort opened and WOW where has the time since gone to??? The Sawmill Campground is a founding member of the GaYBOR District Coalition in 2007. The bond & friendship between GaYBOR District & Sawmill have been very supportive & strong. Two different GLBT venues yet compatible entertainment areas. Then, last year Sawmill was sold again. This time to GLBT resident owners forming a non profit residential co-op. Who would have thought 15 years later we would be saying “Happy 1st Anniversary “ & Welcome RuPaul to the Sawmill!!  Viva La GaYBOR!!!

Our annual Street Festival and Promenade is just around the corner and is expected to attract 90,000 – 120,000 people this year for our 10th Anniversary. In addition, we have events throughout the month of June leading up to our annual festival on June 30th and we hope that you will be a part of them again this year!

Nearly all of our sponsorships include booth space at the Street Festival, entry into the Promenade, ad space in our annual Pride guide and recognition on our website www.stpetepride.com which receives over 1,000,000 hits before the Pride festival each year.
