History and a story that no other community would drag on for a street name. The 2 culprit words that offended many La Setima & La Septima groups which both mean 7 in Spanish. The battle went right from local merchants and YCDC to the top of Tampa’s leadership and Tampa City Council for a crucial vote. What to officially name Ybor City’s 7th Ave?
Well, after 5 years past this month, a major debate had to settle the argument of the so called right way to call the famous “7th Ave Main Street” in Ybor.
Solution? Put both names on all the 7th Ave street signs. So if someone ever asks you why the famed 7th Ave in Ybor has 2 names. Just tell them….a local ethnicity compromise!
‘Laramie Project’ Performance at New “The Space” on Main St.
A new venue location for events and stage for performances is “The Space” at 2106 West Main Street in West Tampa.
Right now you can go and see the live performance of “The Laramie Project”, May 12-14 to Honor the Orlando Pulse victims and Dedicated to 2 innocently murdered friends, Jean Carlos Mendez, 35 and Eddie Jamoldroy Justice, 30 both who were at Pulse Night Club the night of America’s biggest gun massacre in Orlando.

The outcry play is based on the 1998 hate crime murder in Laramie, Wyoming, gay college student Matthew Shepherd. The murder was denounced as a hate crime and brought national attention to GLBT community for the lack of hate crime laws in various states, including the murdering state, Wyoming.

Two bubbly fun girls walk up to the bar and say “Hi Tea Cup do you remember us?” With a bigger smile I say “Yes of course. I gave you my card and you never called me!!!” The girls laughed and said that they were here 2 years ago from Chicago. The last time they were here I gave my card to their Mom. For the past 2 years they have been teasing their Mom that she has a boyfriend in Tampa. On her birthday they had a surprise for MOM……They told Mom to answer the door. There was nobody there. Then told her to look down. The girls had made a rug with my postcard on it!!!! Now I’m in this poor lady’s kitchen in Chicago. LMAO LMAO LOLO

Log Cabin Republicans: Party passes ‘most anti-LGBT platform’ in GOP History.’
Log Cabin Republicans on Tuesday evening issued an email announcing that “moments ago, the Republican Party passed the most anti-LGBT Platform in the Party’s 162-year history.”
The email, from Log Cabin President Gregory T. Angelo, continues: “Opposition to marriage equality, nonsense about bathrooms, an endorsement of the debunked psychological practice of “pray the gay away” — it’s all in there.
“This isn’t my GOP, and I know it’s not yours either. Heck, it’s not even Donald Trump’s! When given a chance to follow the lead of our presumptive presidential nominee and reach out to the LGBT community in the wake of the awful terrorist massacre in Orlando on the gay nightclub Pulse, the Platform Committee said,” NO.”

The Sultans of Egypt Shrine will host a July 4th Parade starting at 6PM down 7th Ave in Ybor City. There will also be a 4th of July party 4pm – 11pm at the Italian
Club in Ybor City.

With July 4th on Monday this year Sunday Night in GaYBOR will be like a second Saturday Night. All the clubs have huge parties planned. Here are just a few.

St Pete Pride Abounds
With all the recent tragic occurrences in Orlando’s Pulse Night Club, St Pete Officials worked with the organizers of St Pete Pride to make sure there wasn’t a bit of trouble lurking. All measures were in place to make St. Pete Pride Parade and Festival another memorable event. In fact, the largest LGBT Pride event in Florida.
Security measures that were seen and those that were blocks away were watching.
The 14th Annual St Pete Grand Marshals included Carlton Fields Law Firm CEO Anastasia Hiotis, Hot 101.5 Radio Show Personality Miguel Fuller and Lucas Aiden Wehle, the Youth & Trans Coordinator at Metro Wellness & Community Centers. This years Honorary Grand Marshal was Tampa’s U.S.House Rep Kathy Castor.
But on the top Billboard of events was GAY PRIDE observances and festivities. Friends meeting friends, family get togethers, singular Proudness and Parade comradery with new friends & fun. Over 150 units partook in the St. Pete Parade’s fun and hot sun weather. Yes, GaYBOR District & TAMPA PRIDE’s float was in there!
Tens of thousands were watching the St.Pete Night Parade along Central Avenue in the Grand central District, Tens of thousands returned for the St Pete Pride Expo on Sunday.
The St Pete Pride Expo had vendors lined up on Central Ave from 22nd to 29th Street on Sunday.
Pride gift retailers,Organizations, Banks, Insurance Companies, large & small Businesses, Talented entertainment and food vendors occupied the tented streets.

Pope Francis: “Christians Need to Apologize to Gays…”
On an in air ‘plane’ press conference returning back to the Vatican from Armenia on Sunday, Pope Francis stated that Christians need to apologize to gays and others that have been exploited by the church.
This is a new direction for the Catholic church doctrine. Just 3 years ago 2013, Pope Francis who was asked by a reporter also on a plane press conference about gays within the church. His astounding historic remarks saying, “Who am I to judge Gay people?”
On that same day in June 26, 1969 was the start of the gay revolution movement in America beginning at the Stonewall Inn Bar with rioting in New York City.
Stonewall National Monument 1st United States Historic For Gay Rights
President Barack Obama announced the 1st LGBT of the designation of the Stonewall National Monument last week in New York City. The historic landmark recognition will cover over 7 acres in the Greenwich Village area in Manhattan. This is a hard fought past chapter for equality of what the LGBT challenges were and still are in America today.
We have enjoyed visiting NYC many times and always have visited the historic Landmark bar before its official designee. That is because it was always an Historic Gay Site!
It was less than 2 weeks ago we lost 49 Brothers and Sisters murdered and another 53 injured in the tragic Pulse Night Club Massacre in Orlando.
What a proud change in our country’s posturing of diversity and positive changes for all Americans.

Miss Missouri is first Crowned As First Gay Winning Contestant
What a day of new changes as during the state of Missouri competition for title of Miss Missouri, Erin O’ Flaherty was crowned title winner. Erin was the winner in this highly sought honor being from St Louis.
Erin is the first openly Lesbian to win the state title and the first to go to the Miss America Pageant.
Now onto Atlantic City for the Miss America Pageant.

You Just Can Not make This Up
Back in USF College days we live on 30th street next to the VA Hospital. Directly above us lived our good friend, Miss JoAnne. One weekend she was in Miami visiting her family and we were taking care of the pets for her. This was a time before ice makers. Hard to believe but true. We had ran out of ice and decided to go upstairs and get some from her freezer. We went into the apartment, pet the cat and right to the freezer. Then I heard….. Miss JoAnne in a very loud voice yet “FRED GET THE GUN!!!! THERE’S SOMEBODY IN THE APARTMENT!!!!” There was no Fred and no gun. JoAnne had come home a day early and we surprised her. To this day when I hear a noise in our home I yell the same thing!!!
