Hillsborough Pride After the Storm
A packed house came out to Rally and Celebrate the Hillsborough County Board of Commissioners (7-0) decision to “Repeal” the ban on GLBT acknowledgement, recognition, promotion and financing of any GLBT event in the county was held at Hamburger Mary’s last Sunday. What difference a day makes.
With a complete lists of area non profits jumping on board to help get the message out to the residents.
GaYBOR District Coalition, GLBTA Democratic Caucus, Equality Florida, MCC Tampa and Dishing with Mark & Carrie all shared in this historical moment for GLBT rights in our county. County Commissioner Kevin Beckner spoke to the packed crowd about the now and future of a new beginning.
Nadine Smith of Equality Florida and Carrie West President of GaYBOR both spoke about the new direction and the fairness in our county after 8 years of GLBT bigotry. Everyone was in agreement that there is more positive things to occur in the very near future.

Roosters of Ybor
You are cordially invited to the Gallery Opening of the Roosters of Ybor Community Partnership Art Project on May 2, 2013 from 5pm – 7:30pm being held at the Hillsborough Community College (HCC) Ybor City Campus’s Main Gallery located in the Performing Arts Building north of Palm Ave in Ybor City.
The Roosters of Ybor Community Partnership Art Project is a four part community art project bringing together the GaYBOR District Coalition, Inc., Hillsborough Community College Ybor City Campus, Centro Ybor, Hamburger Mary’s, Arts Council of Hillsborough, Promo Printing Group, Inc., Hot Spots Magazine and Dishing with Mark and Carrie. The Student Art Competition and Gallery Opening/ Exhibit is a competition where ten HCC Ybor City Campus students compete in decorating ten two foot cement Rooster sculptures. At the Gallery Opening on May 2, 2013 the sculptures will be judged by a GaYBOR District Coalition Board member and two Arts Council of Hillsborough Board members. The winner of the competition will be given a $1000.00 tuition voucher to HCC.
After the Roosters of Ybor Art Exhibit is completed at the college on May 9, 2013, the Roosters will then be installed into ten different store fronts in Ybor City as a Public Art Displays. Running concurrent with the Public Art Display there will be a Scavenger Hunt Game where game cards with clues will be available at multiple locations (Ybor City Visitors Center on 8th Ave at Centro Ybor and the Visitors Center in Channelside along with all the locations of the Roosters) to find the Roosters of Ybor. Turn the completed game cards in to MC Film Fest for a special GaYBOR prize. The Public Art Display and Scavenger Hunt Game will run through June 10, 2013 at which time the Roosters will be moved to Bradley’s on 7th 1510 E 7th Ave in Ybor City for a Silent Auction to be held on June 13, 2013 from 5pm – 9pm.
The proceeds will then go to charity.

CRAZY FUN Thursdays
The beauty of GaYBOR is that on any given night there are many fun things to do & choose from. Thursday Nights are a great example of this. There is shopping/cruising at MC Film. You just never know who will be in trying on the HOTTEST New Swimwear & Underwear. Hamburger Mary’s has Amateur Talent Night. 6-10 pm. A whole wide selections of talents by diverse people all performing their hearts out. The Social has College Night with a special show at midnight. What truly blows us away is the Amateur Strip Contest at Bradley’s on 7th. The First Lady of Ybor City, Miss Joey Brooks hosts this weekly event. The club can be quite calm then at the stroke of midnight suddenly it’s PACKED!!! There are usually 5-10 eager new contestants. What happens next has to be seen to believed!!! Truly one of the Best Parties in GaYBOR!!!! See you this Thursday at the Stroke of Midnight!!!

The Annual GaYBOR Holiday Bar Crawl started the night at Gaspar’s Grotto with a warm welcome or was it just a hot drink? Thanks to Sheri and the pirates gang for the starting inspiration to the bar crawl. Mama lead the procession down Ybor’s crowded avenue. Other shot stops included Reservoir Bar, Hamburger Mary’s Bradley’s on 7th, R Bar, Liquor Cage, Liquid and final stop G.Bar!

People Are Talking
In Washington with the passing of the voter-approved state law legalizing Gay Marriage, 279 Gay Marriage licenses were issued in Seattle the first 6 hours. Domestic Partnership Registry’s are growing in West Coast of Florida cities and now counties. More expanded rights is coming to tampa. We hear the good news of Al & Chuck of AlandChuck.travel got engaged on the recent RuPaul Drag at Sea Cruise out of Miami. Congrats guys!! Carnival Cruise Lines will have to offer a better “I’m sorry Gay people.” for the comments they made in an email to all passengers going on this same cruise. The e-mail stated “…no one can be dressed in drag aboard the ship except for entertainers in the theatre.” Later with pressure coming from all over the press, the president of Carnival rescinded the emails remarks.
The list of performing stars was released for the 2013 Plant City Strawberry Festival. Always a wild and tasty time!!!
