Pumpkin Patch

The Annual Pumpkin Patch in Centro Ybor Courtyards had well over 4000 pumpkins and were given to Halloween holiday dressed kids. It was a fall tented village filled with bright fall orange pumpkins. Thousands of scary themed kids walked with their parents and picked out their very own pumpkin. There was a wash station and then either they decorated under the huge tents or they carried home their orange treasure.
Again the Ybor Merchants Association, YCDC, Centro Ybor and La France along with community residents sponsored and made this grand event for kids a memorable experience. Their were candy station stops around Ybor for kids and their parents to gather their Trick or Treat candy also.
Promoters Jill Wax, Mathieu Stanauch, Mike & Scott, Tom De George & Miss Bonnie and grand daughter Bree and her 8 high school friends from Crowbar and Rich Kerin were helpers in the family friendly kids event.

Ybor’s First Vintage Classic Cars Show in Many Years

A Trifecta of sorts for Halloween Week in historic Ybor City. The first Vintage Classic Auto Show in years brought in the memorable yesteryear cars and true aficionados of the mean beast classic American work horse cars. Roadsters, muscle cars, station wagons, carpet padded love vans, Grandpa & Grandma’s go to church car, mini tour racing cars, signature motorcycles and pick up trucks all brought back to their original glitz and glamour.
It definitely had people reliving their past car crazy years and memories of the 30’s, 40’s 50’s, 60, and 70’s. TPD Community Officer Shawn Mahabir is very much instrumental in planning this Sunday vintage car expo on 7th Ave in Ybor City. Sharing his idea and working with the Ybor Merchants Association and YCDC to make this event happen wasn’t even a challenge. It was a natural for the historic district.
7th Ave was blocked off from 17th to 19th St. and they said an abundance of other classic autos were turned away because the streets were already filled. I guess a bigger show next year!
Officer Shawn made mention that our new Tampa Police Chief Eric Ward,  Wants TPD officers to participate in the Tampa community festivities. To offer event assistance and help as needed!”
We commend you, your staff and whole department. Congratulations for helping to continually make Tampa that something Special City, Chief!
Over 100 cars, trucks, motorcycles and of course Mark & Carrie’s 1979 HRM Princess Priscilla limo Cadillac were in the show. Tampa City Councilman Guido Maniscalco showed off his classic silver Tornado.
A very long classic array of  oldfangled vintage autos did a head turning parade along 7th Ave after the show ended at 5pm.

Dr. Geoffrey Giles; “Homocaust in Nazi Germany”

The special symposium about ” Homosexuals in Nazi Germany” at the USF  Gibbons Alumni Center had a huge crowd. The guest speaker was University of Florida 35 year Emeritus Professor Dr. Geoffrey Giles, a well known International Studies specializing in the WWII travesties and genocide of Jews and on homosexuals in Nazi Germany.
The event was sponsored in a combined effort by 2015 Jack Chester Foundation, USF Special Library Collections, USF LGBT and Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg.
Dr Giles mastered the gay grisly diligent inquest and is a leading international expert and speaker on the Homosexual Holocaust. His travels and research studies have him documenting hidden reports of the horrific witch hunt of gays in Germany under Adolf Hitler’s regime.
Having traveled for over 4 decades to Poland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Britain, Russia, Hungary and Switzerland to document his research on the Third Reich Holocaust era.. Dr Giles has written books and articles about the German Holocaust.
His recent essay on   “The Denial of Homosexuality: Same-Sex Incidents in Himmler’s SS and Police,”Journal of the History of Sexuality, Jan-April 2002.
The symposium program gave a new insight on a worldwide taboo, homosexuality. Did you know that their were between 1941-1945,  32,000/ per year court cases convicting homosexuals during the WW II campaign. Most were sent to concentration camps and then put to death by tragic ways.
“First were the Jews to be executed. Then the homosexuals!” he presented.

You Just Can Not make This Up

Every Halloween for many years Tom Barcia and Mark Cunningham would make EYE BALL Sandwiches and bring them to MC Film. We would all laugh as he passed them out to all the people. Their reactions were priceless.  Here is how they would make them. 1st go to the freezer department of your grocery store and pickup a big bag of frozen EYEBALLS……(which looked a lot like meat balls) then a big jar of BLOOD! (hum could be spaghetti sauce). Combine and put into a crock pot to heat up. To serve cut FINGARS in half  (hotdog buns) and fill with EYEBALLS!  Your laughing right now but you will all be trying this!!!   On a sad note Uncle Tom & Mark both passed away a couple years ago with  in a couple weeks of each other.  If you remember and miss the guys drop a note to Tom’s daughter Michelle at
