You Just Can Not make This Up
The year was 1980. We were moving to Tampa. Looking for an apartment next to USF in North Tampa. There was a big complex on Fletcher Ave. We walked in and asked if there were any 1 bedroom apartments available? The person behind the desk took off her glasses and said… :NO WE DO NOT RENT TO HOMOSEXUALS!!!” Surprised we asked “What makes you think we are Gay?” She replied only homosexuals would ask for a 1 bedroom. The next apartment complex we asked for a 2 bedroom unit.

Creative Loafing and local breweries to celebrate the release of CL’s annual Drinking Issue at Meet the Brewers
(Feb. 23, 2016 – Tampa, Fla.) — Join Creative Loafing and local breweries on Sat., Feb. 27th, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to celebrate the release of CL’s annual Drinking Issue at Meet the Brewers, where 20 of Tampa Bay’s very own brewers will be on-site mingling with an intimate crowd—a unique opportunity to sample your favorite local brews and rub elbows with the brewers behind them!
With more than 40 beers being poured, Meet The Brewers will offer something for everyone: light and refreshing pilsners and wheats, hoppy IPAs and pale ales, malty reds and brown ales, fruity blues and ciders, boozy quads and trippels, tart sours and saisons, and more.
The intimate nature of this event will give attendees access to brewers from each participating brewery to ask questions and learn more about their favorite or up-and-coming local brews. In addition, both full pours and sample-size pours will be offered at the event, allowing attendees to enjoy the beer selection at their convenience without long lines.

General Admission is $35 in advance and $40 at the door. VIP is $80 in advance and $85 at the door. This event has sold out in the past. Creative Loafing is encouraging folks to purchase their tickets in advance to guarantee admission.
General Admission includes 16 beer sampling tickets, each good for a 3-ounce taste. Four beer sampling tickets get a full 12-ounce pour. VIP includes a VIP-only hour from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. where attendees can enjoy unlimited beer sampling (unlimited sampling available during VIP hour), 20 beer sampling tickets to use after VIP hour, and complimentary pizza and pork bomb with chips by New World Brewery.
Additional drink tickets will be available for purchase for $1 each.

Keflezighi and Flanagan are the top seeds and defending champions in the men’s and women’s U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials, set for Saturday, Feb. 13, in Los Angeles. If they can perform as expected, these two world-class runners will be arriving in Tampa as 2016 Olympians preparing for this summer’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. “How can I appropriately convey how thrilled we are to share Meb and Shalane with Gasparilla’s participants and the Tampa Bay community? WE’RE THRILLED!,” said Gasparilla Distance Classic Race Director Susan Harmeling. “Already, they’re three-time Olympians and wonderful and talented human beings that while in Tampa, will touch so many lives.” Keflezighi is a native of Eritrea who grew up in San Diego and earned his U.S. citizenship in 1998. After winning four NCAA titles as a student at UCLA, Keflezighi has gone on to become one of the most accomplished American distance runners ever, winning the U.S. Cross Country Championships three times, the silver medal in the marathon at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, the 2009 New York City Marathon and, just two weeks shy of his 39th birthday, the 2014 Boston Marathon. At the 2012 London Olympics, Keflezighi finished fourth. Now 40, if Keflezighi makes the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team on Saturday, he will become the oldest American Olympic marathon runner of all time. The 34-year-old Flanagan is the daughter of former women’s world marathon record holder Cheryl Bridges. After reaching the finals of the 5,000-meter run at the 2004 Olympics, Flanagan earned the bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Games in the 10,000. In 2010, she made her marathon debut at New York and finished second. In her third Olympic Games at London 2012, Flanagan took 10th in the marathon finals. She currently holds American records indoors at 3,000 and 5000 meters, outdoors at 10,000 meters and on the roads at 10k and 15k. Following their news conference on Feb. 19, Keflezighi and Flanagan will be attending the 8 On Your Side Health & Fitness Expo in the Convention Center, where starting at 3 p.m., they will speak and participate in a Question & Answer session. Once done, they’ll be available to the public at a special booth for autographs and photos. On the evening of Feb. 19, Keflezighi and Flanagan will also take part in a charity dinner hosted by Columbia Restaurant Group CEO/President Richard Gonzmart that will raise funds for Moffitt Cancer Center. On Saturday morning, Feb. 20, the two runners will be on hand at the finish line to greet the winners of the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic’s 15k and 5k races and, starting at 3 p.m. that day, make another appearance at the Expo. Sunday morning, Feb. 21, Flanagan and Keflezighi will greet the champions of the Publix Gasparilla Half Marathon and 8k races and chat with youth participants in the Florida Blue Kids Running Program. Krewe of Sant’ Yago Knight Parade
Everybody loves the parade! We all have crazy stories to tell too. This one should be in our column “You Can Not Make this Up!” the names are changes to protect the innocent LOL. There was a huge party going on a balcony over looking the parade. Suddenly a very cocktailed young lady barged into the balcony. She was outraged and very upset . Somebody on the balcony had spilled a drink on her. Demanding to know who it was. Everybody just laughed and she left. A few minutes later there she was on the sidewalk below still yelling. Somebody tossed her some beads. She picked them up then threw them on the sidewalk and began stomping on them. Even more irate she gave the balcony double fingers and was screaming obscenities. The guys on the balcony laughed and poured their drink on her. Lucky her drunken girl friends they pulled her away.
