When is a film… a film?
Interesting changes have occurred in the film industry the past 5 years. I have always been a movie nut focused on any and all GLBT themes. I have been in the “movie closet” for 40+ years but with that being said I still envision a better GLBT produced movie. One with realism, ambiance and truthful honest real settings. Even though I have over 8600 DVD and over 9,000 videos in collection I still wonder.
All the movies that had a couple of film slides together in the 1970’s was called a remarkable piece of gay history. I have been in front and behind the scenes to films production, direction and completion! Mark & I have edited more editorial explanations to gay movies than I care to admit to. And in our early years we were always waining for more expletives, more romance, more interpersonal concern, and a queen not living the kings lifestyle way of life type movies. It took many years before Hollywood heard us and followers of gay cinema critics received there wishes.
I recently referenced a movie I was asked about and looked into it. The one book that has a lot of reliable knowledge is “The Ultimate Guide to Lesbian & Gay Film and Video” by Jenni Olson ,1996. I also noticed that a majority of the films listed in the book were in the 3 – 9 minute range. Most can’t be obtained or seen! Oh what a shame.
I was thinking about how times have veneered many great indie films and imaginative video clips that come out daily on You Tube! It’s another modern movie world!
