Dear Friends,

It is my great honor to support the Tampa Bay Red Ribbon Run! The Tampa Bay Red Ribbon Run is the annual fundraiser to support the HIV/AIDS education, advocacy, prevention, and treatment programs of The AIDS Institute www.theaidsinstitute.org and Metro Wellness and Community Centers www.metrotampabay.org.

This year’s event will be held in Tampa, Florida’s Lowry Park Zoo on World AIDS Day, Thursday evening December 1st.  Tampa, Florida is the home office location for both The AIDS Institute and the Metro Wellness and Community Centers.

Providing access to prevention, care and treatment is the cornerstone of these two non-profit organizations.  Your support means helps to ensure there will be services available to those who need it when they need it.

It is important to note that Florida alone has 40% of the entire nation’s AIDS Drug Assistance Program waiting list patients. These waiting lists mean:

  • Even though life-saving medications area available, these ill and poor are denied their medications due to the lack of money by our states’ safety-net programs.
  • Of the nearly 10,000 people throughout American on this waiting list, nearly 4,000 reside in Florida.

This event helps us put a spotlight on this critically important problem and helps us fund solutions to save our friends’ and neighbors’ lives!   Help us spread the word that the fight against HIV/AIDS is NOT over!

Join me in supporting this critically important event by being a:

The National Crown Comes to GaYBOR!!!
The smell of expensive French Perfume floating through GaYBOR District could only mean one thing… The NATIONAL Miss Gay US0fA at Large Pageant was in town! 40 contestants from across the USA we here to compete for the highly prestigious crown at the Honey Pot. The talent competition rivaled anything you would find in Las Vegas! We overheard one person say, “The pageant looked like something you would expect to see in Miami’s South Beach” The other person replied. “Oh no this is much better than South Beach. This has GaYBOR’s high quality!” Making the top 12 were two GaYBOR Divas,  Desiree DeMornay http://www.facebook.com/#!/desiree.demornay and Jocelyn Summers http://www.facebook.com/#!/jocelyn.summers .  When it came time for th Crowning it sounded like a 747 had just landed on 7th Ave!!!  Our very own Miss Desiree DeMornay was crowned the National Winner! This was also the very first time a Miss Gay Florida USofA at Large Crown holder won the National!  GaYBOR is very Proud of our First National crown holder!!!!  Congratulations to Miss Desiree DeMornay!!!

Everybody is asking where did the 30 foot bright pink bra at the TaTa’s Party for Breast Cancer come from? We have it from a very good source that it came from none other than VJ Greg Anderson’s DJ Booth at the Honey Pot!!!! Humm…  next thing you know she will be charging for Ybor’s Free parking spaces. LOL LOL. And speaking of the famous VJ Anderson, he and new friend, Dr Robinson are in Paris, France sightseeing. Famous Washington, DC music artist and Latin pop singer Gloria Estefan’s music mixer, VJ/DJ Yiannis filled in at the G.Bar last Sat. Tatas For Ybor, American Cancer Society Art Event

pa080276

The Ybor Art Association held a most unusual party and art event at Honey Pot Saturday night. Artists and vendors from around the area came together to put on “Tata’s For Ybor’ a benefit for the American Cancer Society including a large 30′ pink bra on stage.  Numerous artists that are survivors of cancer participated and ‘Men in Pink Bras’ was a common site on 7th Ave.on Saturday!  Collecting money in the bras for the Breast Cancer Benefit. Congratulations to Moire Shiver and YAA team for this wonderful event.

Ybor City Striders Have American Cancer Society Event

300011_10150342771284177_680599176_8165841_1065292962_n Men and boys put on their wives, girlfriends and even co workers pink bras for the ‘Put on Your Pink Bra Event ‘ at Gaspar’s Grotto Sunday in historic Ybor City getting ready for the Walk Against Breast Cancer 5K, October 22 in downtown Tampa. Singing Stone Gallery owner, Nataly Balk and Gaspar’s Grotto owner, Shere Shiller were volunteer team leaders. Every three minutes a woman will be diagnosed with breast cancer. In the United States, 1 out of 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer during her lifetime, but the 5 year survival rate is 98% if caught early. Mark your calendar for Saturday, Oct. 22 at 9 a.m. for the American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.” Call your family and friends, organize a team and decorate a pink bra! Join thousands making up a sea of pink bras as people walk 5K from the St. Pete Times Forum to Bayshore Boulevard.
This is a fun, community oriented event (strollers welcome!) where everyone is encouraged to put on a pink bra! The pink bra serves as an empowering symbol of how personal the fight against breast cancer can be. Walkers are encouraged to throw bra decorating parties and carry their bras to raise awareness and money for the American Cancer Society. The money raised goes toward research, awareness and screenings.
