Dishing with Mark n Carrie …. World InterPride

World InterPride

TAMPA PRIDE 2024 was proud to be a part of InterPride Worldwide Conference in San Diego with over 70 countries and 142 Pride Leaders attending. The conference brings the problems, likes and directions that the LBBAQ+ Community is taking and headed. Though globally, there are differences in the challenges we all face, so many similarities exist amongst us all.

The changes were made while we were at the conference. The former Swaziland, Africa now Eswatini banned LGBTAQ+ rights this past Thursday prior to the conference. A small member group came from Eswatini under human rights protest, though they were permitted 2 months prior. A high school senior from Thailand represented Thailand and proposed an InterPride Conference to be held in Bangkok, 2027 and all the while communicating with their PM. A lot of discussions centered around the dismantling of the LGBTAQ+ Communities in their respective countries. The new changes in the modern PRIDE Parades and Demonstrations globally. Twelve breakout sessions per-day on many topics. Tampa Pride members broke out into different groups to take in as much information and subject matter as possible. All this for making a better TAMPA PRIDE Celebration coming up March 23, 2024. Our First TAMPA PRIDE 5K RUN will be March 9 th in Al Lopez Park, 7AM- Noon with a variety of races and events. Festival, Fun Run, Doggie Jogs, DJ, Sponsorships Available, Vendors needed. www.TampaPride.org for more Info.

Dishing with Mark n Carrie… St Partick’s Day Parade moved out of Ybor City

St Partick’s Day Parade moved out of Ybor City???

Under things that make you say Hummmm. In 1898 Theodore Roosevelt lead the 1st US Volunteer Cavalry Regiment, know as “The Rough Riders” to Cuban. The group, with horses, was on a train coming from the east to Tampa. In Gary (now East Ybor) the train took a turn to the north. Teddy asks if they had arrived in Tampa. The conductor said no. The trains turn north here, then back in the last mile into the Tampa train Station.  Teddy proclaimed… Lets get off the train here and have a parade into Tampa. Later in his diary Teddy wrote… The good people of Gary fed and watered the horses. Here he saw the most unusual tree where the roots were growing from the sky.  That Banyan tree and one of the hand water pumps are in our front yard today.  That day there was a parade down 7th Ave in Ybor City. Later they would sail to Cuba with the soldiers and horses.  When finished in Cuba he gave the horses to the people of Cuba.

Fast forward to 1978.  https://www.tamparoughriders.org/

Tampa Rough Riders, Inc.. The 1st U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment – Rough Riders, Inc was founded in 1978 to create and perpetuate a living memorial to the unique accomplishments of President Theodore Roosevelt and the members of the 1st US Volunteer Cavalry Regiment, known as the Rough Riders.

In the years to come the Tampa Pough Riders, Inc hosted the St Patrick’s Day Parade in Ybor City. We can just imagine the smile this would bring to Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders. That is why, for us, it is sad to see the traditional parade move out of Ybor City.

“Don’t Say Gay ” author sent to prison

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A federal judge on Thursday sentenced to prison a former Florida state legislator who catapulted to national attention for being the sponsor of a bill barring classroom instruction about sexual orientation and gender identity that was called by its critics the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. (from msn.com)

Former Rep. Joe Harding (R-Williston), who plead guilty in March to one count each of wire fraud, money laundering and making false statements as part of a scheme to fraudulently obtain a $150,000 federal Covid-19 relief loan, was sentenced to four months in prison.

U.S. District Judge Allen Winsor, who was appointed to the bench by former President Donald Trump, also sentenced Harding to two years of supervised release following his prison sentence. Court records show that Harding is scheduled to surrender to authorities on Jan. 29.
