StageWorks! Opening Night!! “Sylvia”!

Please join us as our guests for the opening night pre-show reception, performance and cast party
of the romantic comedy “Sylvia” !
If you love dogs… you’ll love this show !
Sylvia
by A. R. Gurney

(Enter your dog in “Sylvia’s Cutest Dog Contest: Stageworks Facebook page!)

Friday June 29th, 7:30pm Pre-Show Wine and Cheese and 8pm curtain!
Stageworks Theatre in The Channel District!
The show runs through July 15th if you are not free this night.
A romantic comedy about a dog and the couple who adopts her. “Sylvia” is a hilarious commentary on mid-life angst, and the role pets play in our lives. When middle-aged, Greg brings stray dog “Sylvia” back to the empty nest he shares with his wife, a romantic triangle ensues! Sylvia is a beautiful, frisky young blonde and yes, she talks, sings Cole Porter and quotes Shakespeare! (Sarah Jessica Parker created the role on Broadway!) For dog lovers this is a must! Bring a photo of YOUR dog to put on our “Sylvia’s friends” wall in the lobby!

“Funny Water at the SunCoast Resort”
(6)
A SunCoast Resort Memory. There was a fancy Gay Car Club banquet dinner in the second floor convention room. The guests were all served water. After a few sips people started to comment “I’ve heard of lemon in the water before but never garlic. Hum… this must be a southern thing??” Soon some people were saying it was actually very nice change. The truth was there was no water on that floor. The kitchen servers had brought the drinking water over in buckets from the kitchen. The buckets were the same ones pickles came in. Once the servers realized what was going on there was a big laugh in the kitchen. LOL LOL LOL PS Nobody told the group. They still think that we put garlic in our water in the south!!!

“OMG the CD was Signed!!!”

Several years ago Steve Donahue of G.BAR was telling us that we had to come out on a Sunday Night to hear this new singer. That night she gave a great performance. We remember her over the top costume. Sadly not to many were at her meet & great after. Last year I was going thru a stack of music CD’s on my desk. I opened the cast to her CD and to our astonishment it was signed to us! We had totally forgot it was signed.  The person was Lady GaGa!!!! you just can not make this stuff up!!!!

St. Pete Pride 2012 is in full swing. There are ton’s of fun events planned. To see them all visit www.stpetepride.com . The Out on the Street Promenade and Super Inviting Street Festival is scheduled for Saturday, June 30th. The Parade starts at 9AM so plan on being there by 7-8AM. OMG that’s early!! Pancake Breakfast Benefit by Una Voce at MCC King of Peace and other breakfast goodies at Georgie’s Alibi! From a person with a float in many parades… this is also the most over whelming parade of all the parades. It would be a big relief to see barricades put in pace to protect the floats, marching units & viewers.  Always an awesome Gold Star event for Tampa Bay and all of Florida. An anticipated record breaking attendees coming from all over the country will be here. It takes a full years planning with lot of time, energy, volunteers and management team to put such an extraordinary Blue Ribbon Festival in place.
With all that being said… did you know Mark & Carrie were at the very first St. Pete Pride organizational meeting with 14 others at Grand Central Station??? Together with Judy B Goode & Paul Thomas, Mark & Carrie hosted the very first St. Pete Pride fundraiser too. We have been in all the Pride Parades in the past & plan on continuing to be in the many future ones too. Happy St. Pete Pride Everybody!!!
Hmmm…. Maybe, Tampa should think about forming a committee for a  PRIDE Celebration to Tampa again! (A different time period of course.)

BLIND ACTIVIST OFFERS CONCERT

Dear All,
I am working on my play list and have a lot of input about which songs my audience wants to hear. Terence Young, who works with me on Unity’s music team, and I have been rehearsing a couple of songs to share as a duo and I know you will enjoy what we have planned. If you have a favorite, I would like to know so I can consider it for my play list.
I also want to let you know that we will be recording the show for a future live album. Come and be a part of the experience! Even if you cannot make the show but would still like to support my work with the National Association of Guide Dog Users, you can do so by visiting our website
and clicking on the “Support NAGDU” link. I look forward to a full house and seeing you there!
Peace & Blessings!
Marion

BLIND ACTIVIST OFFERS CONCERT

As an artist, Marion Gwizdala communicates meaning far beyond the words he sings. As an advocate, he communicates a message of social change towrd full participation of the disabled in society on terms of equality. His message penetrates further than the ears into the consciousness of the listener.

“This isn’t an act,” Gwizdala explains, “It is my life!”

Marion Gwizdala is blind and serves as the President of the National Association of Guide Dog Users (NAGDU), a strong and proud division of the National Federation of the Blind. Marion is a published author, accomplished public speaker, and experienced workshop facilitator in the areas of legal and psycho-social aspects of blindness and service animals. He has been involved in several high profile legal cases both as a complainant and an advocate. He has been instrumental in creating civil rights legislation in several states and is a recognized leader in the blindness and service/guide dog users’ movements. Marion blends his knowledge and real-life experience with a touch of humor to shift the social consciousness of his audiences. His shows are more a dialogue than a performance and no two are exactly alike! Marion uses his shows to support his work with the National Association of Guide Dog Users.

On Friday, June 22 at 7:00 pm, Marion will appear at Unity North Tampa to perform one of his unique shows. The suggested admission is $20, but more or less is appreciatively accepted. Donations are tax-deductible as contributions to a charitable organization. Unity North Tampa is located at 13540 North Florida Avenue, just north of Fletcher Avenue. A meet & greet with Marion and his wife, Merry, will follow the concert. For more information, you can visit

New at Liquid TAMPA
Less than one week away until the premiere of QUEEN ON THE NIGHT. And here are the contest details And prizes.

DETAILS: This is NOT an amateur Drag contest..it is Open to all..Amateur or veteran, Drag Queens, Club Kids, Drag Kings, and Performance Artist.. IT MATTERS NOT. What does matter is that you stick to the challenge set for each month. You can do a one man show or give us a production complete with dancers… Whatever it takes to stand out to the audience and sell YOU.. (please remember that even if you don’t win one month, you can always compete the next and just like contestants on American idol have gone on to enjoy success even tho they haven’t won due to the exposure their given, You too could use it this as an opportunity to give your talent a platform). The idea is to get performers spotlighted and give them a chance to work.

Every month, we are going to Video tape the performers; pre-show, on the night of the event…We ask that all contestants be there by 8:30 for filming..You are going to tell a little about yourself and sell yourself on camera…And we will use the video as your intro when bringing you out.
8:30 REAL TIME NOT DRAG TIME..if you are not there in time to be Filmed, you can still go on, You just won’t have the video intro, which would KINDA SUCK…since we’re not just trying tosell your talent, but develop a connection between you and the audience.

Contest starts at 10pm. Judges will not determine the winner UNLESS, there is a tie between performers in audience votes…the judges however will critique each performer.. please have your music on a clean Cd, don’t bring your music on a phone and ask me to play it through some computer or whatever ..I’m not going through all that..PROFESSIONAL is the key. Needless to say, the song has to be a ROCK SONG, or A ROCK ANTHEM, old or new..BUT YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED IF YOU COME WITH SOMETHING OTHER THAN THE CHALLENGE OF THE MONTH, no matter how fierce the production.

CONTEST PRIZES:
1.Winner receives $100 night of contest..(instant gratification)
2.Paid booking at Liquid Tampa (at same pay rate-$100)
3.Be the host of the next month contest. (this serves to inspire the contestants, of that current contest)

We have a lot of Crazy ideas brewing for the upcoming Challenges..so strap in..THIS RIDE HAS JUST BEGUN!!
