This weekend!
Ybor Cigar Palooza is cigar event in Ybor City, Tampa, Florida for gay cigar men. Nov 16 – 18, 2012. Cigar bears, cigar leathermen, pipemen, are all welcome.
This is the first annual event. We want you to come to Florida, enjoy the sunshine, enjoy the historic Ybor City National Historic District, and enjoy the cigars in the Cigar Capital of the USA with other hot cigarmen.
The Hilton Garden Inn Ybor Historic District and Hampton Inn Ybor City are the host hotels.

Events will include; Ybor Cigar Crawl, Cigar party Friday night at Honeypot VIP Lounge and Saturday night at King Corona Cigar Bar, The Ybor City Cigar Heritage Festival on Sat. Nov. 17th (separate event open to all),  dinners at Hamburger Marys & Carne Chop House.

This event is backed by the Gaybor Coalition.

Your help is need to bring “The Rock and The Ripe” to Tampa Bay  

Dear GaYBOR Friends and Family  –  At the last meeting, Kathy and I announced that we are producing The Rock and the Ripe – an amazing play, book and movement created to give others insight into the relentless anti-gay bullying that children are enduring daily from students, teachers and their community. We are bringing the play to Tampa along the playwright and  (4) of original cast to perform the piece for two weeks in Ybor at the Back box Theatre at HCC-Ybor.

In the words of the Playwright, The Rock and Ripe. is a play… based on the true stories of a lost generation of gay suicides, this project honors and gives voice to the ones who are not here to tell us their accounts. Created by director/playwright/activist, Mark Blane, this play is a combination of several years of research, interviews, and case studies spanning across the United States. The material is most directly influenced by the recent suicides of openly gay teens Phillip Parker (death on 1/20/12) and Rafael Morelos (death on 1/29/12), as well as the personal stories and experiences of Mark Blane, a survivor of anti-gay bullying and harassment.

The dates of the performance is February 22 – March 3, 2013. The theatre has kindly donated the space, however we anticipate expenses of about 14K. we are hoping that you will get behind the fundraising and perhaps agree to host a fundraising event at your businesses. I truly believe that this is a play that needs to be done here. Will you help us?

We truly need community support to help us fund this worthwhile project.  Among are needs are:

  1. Money through fundraising
  2. Housing for visiting actors
  3. Feeding the visiting actors while they are in Tampa
  4. Airfare for the playwright in December and then for him and the four visiting artists in February.
  5. Promoting and attending the event.

On October 2, 2012 I signed a binding purchase contract for The Historic YMCA Building 
Monthly Deposits due starting November 15 and a (first) closing date set for June/17/2013. 
If we succeed in our mission…
The Historic YMCA will actively stand as a light in the community for many generations to come.
A “cash cow” and a community builder with over 200,000 people through it’s doors each year with:
Concerts & Special Events, Art & Fashion Shows, Comedy & Sporting Events and Themed Public & Private Party’s.
If we fail in our mission…  
The Historic YMCA will be sold to a Bank and Demolished for a new structure!!! 
Permits to demo the property have already been submitted to the City.

My simple offer, request and open invitation to a great opportunity is such:
Assist our initial fundraising efforts as either an Angel Investor @ $52k-$178k or as the Founder Investor @ $360k
Angel amount assists us locking down the property for either 3 months – 1 year and a small operations budget.
The Founder Amount allows the same but additional operations budget for building an office inside The Historic YMCA, having a daily sales staff on site and covering architectural designs and all marketing needs.
We are confident $360k is all we will need to borrow for the entire project.
The rest of the funds raised coming from revenue streams that do not require payback.
Ie. Local/State/Federal Grants, Corporate Sponsorships, Advance Lease Agreements, Donors/Donations, VIP Memberships, Branding Rights & Advertising Agreements, Merchandise/Licensing etc.

Event Guide that will detail all marketing and promotional outreaches we have already in place to assist our new venue being established from Day One!
I am open to any/all thoughts you have on how we can collectively work together – whether that is being a highlighted figure on our team if you desire to be more in the limelight – or a silent partner that can also assist our progress past the initial purchase and build out phases.
All I ask is that if you want to proceed we act soon.
This Sunday will be the final day I am looking to show the property – Open House is set for 2-4pm.

THE GaYBOR/ Ybor City Chili Cook-Off
    This past weekend there was Fierce and HOT Competition in the Annual Bradley’s on 7th Chili Cook Off Competition. 9 contestants vied for the right to be the Honorable Chili Chef Guru in GaYBOR/ Ybor City. A wide variety of chili recipes were made for the over 300 sampling votes tallied.
    On consensus in the very close race the top winners were; 1st Place winner was smiling Jake Zils, 2nd Place Samantha from Reservoir Bar, 3rd bartender Bradford from Bradleys on 7th, and 4th Place winner Joel.
    Last years winner was TEACUP (Mark Bias-MC FILM) with his white warm chili winning presentation. The next level is at Cityside Lounge which is a Chili Cook Off Charity Benefit put on by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and a chosen charity.
    Start now for next years very competitive Chili Cook Off where you can claim bragging rights for your recipe.

Fall Comfort Foods… Umm Garlic
So many different ways to make garlic spreads for dipping, spreading and marinating. Our gathered Homemade Aioli recipe is one we think you will enjoy. We have two simple but very flavorful recipes for your comfort zone.
Mom Peaton’s Aioli Recipe
    4 Garlic cloves pressed or crushed and minced
    1/4 tsp salt
    1/4 tsp cracked pepper
    2 egg yolks
    3/4 cup virgin olive oil
    1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
    In a bowl add the first four ingredients whisk and slowly add the virgin olive oil. Whisk together until thick then finally add in the fresh lemon juice. Refrigerate and serve on bread, crackers or sandwiches.
Roasted Garlic Butter… Fall Simple
    1 Whole bulb garlic
    3-4 tbsp Virgin olive oil
    Turn on oven and set at 350 degrees. Cut of 1/4 top of garlic bulb. Put in an oven proof dish. We have a garlic pottery that we use. Pour over the garlic the olive oil. Put in oven for 20 minutes.
    Each roasted clove is a great spread on bread, meats or flavorful accents in vegetables. Always yummy!

New Must Try Restaurant.

    We just love the magic of GaYBOR!!! After a full Sunday FUNday, we stopped by Bradley’s on 7th. Sitting next to us were 2 very cheerful guys. Ryan & his friend. The conversation moved to food. When we talked about kim chee Ryan’s eyes opened up. It turns out he is a chef at the new restaurant across the street to the University of Tampa, “Edison: food + drink lab.”
    Ryan described a chef’s special, Tuna Tartar with kim chee & Korean pickles that they make at the new open air trendy bistro. The next day we made a trip to the Edison. Located at 912 W. Kennedy Blvd in the same building as GaYBOR Members Tribeca Hair.
    The dinning room has a fresh, clean, scientific fun Edison- esk atmosphere. The luncheon menu was full of interesting & unusually interesting savoring items, mostly New American Modern Cuisine. Our server explained that most of the items have 5+ flavors hid on each plate. We looked up to see our friend, Melissa (Madge) Judge was working there as brand operations mgr. We commented on how fantastic the menu was then she told us who the Chef-Owner is… Jeannie Pierola!!!
    WOW Jeannie is a legendary celebrity chef in Tampa. From Bern’s Steak House and SideBern’s Restaurants to private pop up parties!!! The staff is made up of people who Jeannie personally knows and has worked with. The food, service & atmosphere all got 5 out of 5 stars from us. Our only complaint is that Edison is not located in Ybor City! LOL LOL
    You all know how much we like to walk to everything. Edison’s is perfect for “Date Night!!!” We highly suggest reservations for this “Must Do” restaurant at http://edison-tampa.com/
