Kryptonite Green Hillsborough River
The Downtown Hillsborough River is bright and safe but Saturday our Irishman Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn had the river turn illuminous Forest Emerald Green for the Annual St. Patrick’s Day River O’Green Celebration.
Boaters and crew teams rowed and sped through green waters instead of the aqua blue in the calm downtown waterway. A few pictures for the Special Luck of The Irish Day. Sorry, No sign of Superman!
St Patrick’s Day Float GaYBOR Style
The Preparations and implementaion to have a parade is enormous. Ybor City does have it’s fair share of parades. Most recently, last Saturday, The Annual Rough Riders St Patrick’s Day Parade. For the 5th year in a row, GaYBOR District Coalition has been invited to attend and participate in the big fun Irish event. As being a real spurt of change and ecconomics to Tampa, GaYBOR members ( 60% gay friendly & 40% gay owned businesses/ organizations from all around Florida) are so proud to participate and show the diversity that GaYBOR/ Ybor City has. We had a blast being a part of the annual Shamrock themed Irish parade.
We are honored to have been invited by the charity giving Rough Riders but there is a segment of the country that doesn’t allow any GLBT participation in any St. Patty’s traditional event..LGBT’s are not allowed in Boston, New York, Chicago and Savannah, Ga parades. Just say’n…

New “Fab” Chocolatier in Hyde Park
Ashworth Artisan Chocolates in Old Hyde Park Village has a unique array of freshly handmade chocolates. I love a great handmade caramel chocolates. Yes, I grew up on Fannie Mae Famous Chocolates! The fancy morsels often called petite aphrodisiacs were delicious. The caramels offered were GREAT! The glass chocolate showcase has all your favorites right in the front of you. Yes, ah=gain I was a kid in a candy store. Steven Ashworth is the talented proprietor of the neighborhood chocolate factory on Hyde Park’s Snow Ave .
He gave me a viand of one of his original works, Dark Chocolate Cayenne Pepper Brittle. A hint of heat with the deep rich chocolate. Wow a tidbit of surprise! Other unique visual flavors are Cocoa Chai Spice for a worldly taste, Key Lime Sunset for Florida’s wild zesty flavor, and fifty varieties of dark, white and milk chocolate sweets. Most are a combination of his trial and precise combos of imagination. The culinary chocolatier also has a full line of sugar free chocolates as well.
I then went out to see the wonderful sidewalk chalk art drawing beginnings throughout Old Hyde Park Village for the Annual HP Sidewalk Chalk Art Show.
Tequila’s Mexican Restaurant Opening in Ybor City
Ybor City has had a slew of new opening restaurants at a rate of 1 a month. It is great to see new cultures coming to the historic landmark city. Tequila’s Mexican Restaurant (old Full Moon Saloon) on 7th Ave next to the other recently opened restaurant, Buffalo Wild Wings.
On having a lunch there this week we were greeted by the manager, Michael Perry. He told us that, ” a full menu will be available in 2 weeks. They are on a soft opening basis.” Tacos, burritos and nachos are on the lunch menu and full list of tasty margaritas. The bright colorful Mexican village charm sets the ambience to your eating experience. Live entertainment on weekends. www.Tequilasybor.com
