As everybody focuses on all the pride parties and events happening in our city and others, please let’s not forget those people who fought the early battles that made pride possible. The people who were unable to see the fruits of their efforts. The people whose names we can no longer remember.

(Pictured is the 1993 AIDs quilt laid out at the foot of the Building in the Washington monument. I helped sow several of these quilts for friends who had passed. I did many more for the second unfurling of the aid quilt. It was incredibly somber, gut, wrenching, and spirit killing. Everyone I knew was looking over their shoulder, wondering when they were next. Including me.)

Fringe Festival

What Pirate are LGBT??? YES!!! Black Sail is fact and fiction and based on several pirate tales and legends. At times felt like a Pirate soap opera, then over the top action.  Besure to read the all-star cast credits in advance. The LGBT twists are fascinating both spoken and unspoken. The ending will not disappoint but warning it is a romantic tear jerker that we did not see coming.

You Just Can Not Make This Up.

If you are lucky, you will have crazy fun sisters like we do! One SUNday FUNday 2 of our sisters (both in their upper 70’s) were in Ybor City with us. We went home early and they wanted to stay out longer. We left them unsupervised and told them to Uber home. A couple hours later we heard zoom zoom outside. Our sisters had made new friends in Ybor. When they went to call the Uber they guys said no problem we will drop you off.  They were a motorcycle club!!! As they jumped off the bikes we thought COUGERS!!!!  LMAO

This 1,500+ sf ft second floor 2-bedroom apartment is new construction but you would never know. During covid Mark & Carrie carefully salvaged parts of their Tampa 1890 Cigar Forman home, before the new owner demolished it.  Repurposing doors, molding/trim, tin ceiling, archways, wall paneling & more.  Adding in all the modern conveniences like, cable TV, wifi, outside cameras, central heat & air, micro wave, toaster oven, DW, coffee bar, washer dryer etc etc.  There is a node to Local Ybor Artis and Mark’s very own art works. Outside you will find a patio area with a fire pit &bamboo butterfly garden. 2 designated off street parking spaces.  All this with a classy wink to the LGBTQ+ Rainbow.

Your Hosts Mark & Carrie live on property in the main home. LGBT advocates their entire life together. For 29 years they were owners and operated 9 Gay  Pride stores in Tampa, St Petersburg, Gulfport and Orlando. In 2007 started the GaYbor District Collation in Historic Ybor City. Carrie is the founder and current President of Tampa Pride. People call Carrie the mayor of Ybor. Both are happy to answer all your questions while respecting your privacy.

Location, Location, Location. Located at 3510 E 8th Ave. One block north of Ybor City’s 7th Avenue which was “Designated One of Americas 10 Great Streets” in 2008 by the American Planning Association. You are 10 blocks from the World-Famous Columbia Restaurant.  A $5 to $10 uber ride to Ybor City, Water Street, Cruise Ships & Downtown Tampa.  There are so many new experiences here waiting for you.
