GaYBOR: Glow Party Really GLOWS Plus…

A traditional event in Tampa Bay ended the Labor Day Weekend at the Honey Pot’s End of Summer Glow Party. And this years party was a winner as usual. The long holiday weekend coincided with other great GaYBOR/ Ybor City events. Special weekend events had LOGO TV’s past RuPaul Drag Race Finalists in seasons 1 & 2 doing a 2 day performance set at Hamburger Mary’s. A special guest appearance from DJ Hector Fonseca from NYC at Honey Pot and Gay Days Disney Intl Brazilian DJ/VJ GUSTAVO SCORPIO had his magic hand spinning at G.Bar.
The national touring play cast  of “Out of the Woods” were dancing their butts off at HP on Friday. The over the top Sunday black light party had balloons, bubbles, hats and foam party gifts for all the packed entrants all in black light flare. Bradleys on 7th had special guests performing for the weekend with Miss Joey Brooks at the helm.
The Labor Day Weekend in GaYBOR has increased in numbers and national awareness as a great place to visit, shop, stay and be entertained during the usually slow Labor Day Weekend.

Today’s Gay History Lesson.
In Shakespearean time, women were not allowed to perform on stage. The women parts were performed by male actors. This was called D.R.A.G – Doing Role As Girl  others also said it was Dressed Resembling A Girl.

HRC: Russia Has a Very Scary Anti-GLBT Message

–  Human Rights Campaign Alert
The Winter Olympics are inching closer every day and the human rights crisis in Russia is only getting worse. The country’s anti-GLBT “propaganda” law that outlaws any show of support for the equality and basic dignity of GLBT people has put millions at risk, including straight allies.
International Olympic Committee authorities are still sending mixed signals about the safety of GLBT visitors to Russia – athletes, spectators, and sponsors alike, to say nothing of the GLBT Russians at risk every single day.
Last month, we asked HRC members and supporters like you to call on the IOC to condemn the repressive law and get a guarantee of safety for Olympic participants and spectators. And since then, nearly 120,000 people have spoken out against this heinous law.

Out & About Tampa Bay
The Country Pumpkin Cafe is located at 2620 E. Hillsborough Ave right next door to one of our favorites and famous Tampa Chinese restaurants, Yummy House. The two restaurants are separately owned. The Country Pumpkin serves Breakfast (all day) and lunch at very reasonable prices.
All the menu items are handmade except for the biscuits server/mgr, MB (Mary Beth) told me.
“We just don’t have enough room to make them.” she said. “The pancakes (4 varieties) and waffles are the best!!!”
I love breakfast. I tried the recommended homemade Corned Beef Hash with eggs. It was very good made with red & green peppers, onions, hash brown potatoes and corned beef chunks.
They are famous for their hamburgers on TravelAdvisor and everything else is just as good. A new fall menu is set to be in place this month!
Right across from Sanwa Farmers Market. A great place to have breakfast1

You Can Not Make This Up.

Our best trip ever to Las Vegas was our first trip! It was in the early 1980’s. We went with good friends, an older Tampa Gay couple, Dr. Walt BanksJack Busciglio .  Both of these super guys have since passed away.  When checking into the landmark Stratosphere Casino Hotel & Tower. Jack told the front desk clerk that he didn’t want to be higher than the 4th floor… just in case of fire.LOL LOL The beautiful towering Vegas strip hotel has 108 stories and told Jack not to worry!
The smiling hotel clerk then put all of us in rooms in the basement!!!  “For safety sake!” she remarked!!
We went to Old Las Vegas in the downtown area for dinner and to gamble a little. We started off and went to the legendary  Frontier Casino Hotel. Dr. Walt went to one of the women casino drink servers and said, “Which are the machines that are paying off really good tonight?” She led us to the corner section at the Frontier Casino area and said these 4 here and 3 over there 1 isle over. I was shocked as was Mark. How would she know what machines will be winners??? But I loved the tenacity and pure honesty of our 5′ Southern Georgia doctor friend in asking the server. He then gave her a $20 bill with a very southern accent, “Thank You, Hon-ney!”
We were there no less than 5 minutes playing the machines in the corner when Dr Walt hit a $800 win.
We collected then looked for the server to give her $100.00 for her advise. We were pretty hungry by now.
Of course we went to the “4 Queen’s Casino” for dinner. Their infamous acclaimed Prime Rib dinner was $9.95 with a glass of house wine and then you also got $20 in money chips to gamble with. We were having such a great time playing the Queen’s slot machines.
Jack was playing the same 2 slots over and over again next to Mark. Jack was yelling “It’s HOT…. She is going to pay soon!” Then Jack said, “OMG… I’m going to pee my pants!” and ran for the men’s room. He yelled to Mark to stay on the 2 maybe magic fortune telling & paying slot machines!
Mark started to play Jack’s mojo money machines then…. OMG!!!  It HIT for $2,500 dollars!!!! You could hear Jack screaming from the nearby men’s room…. “You SOB, Sh*t …Sh*t …That’s My Money!!!” We all couldn’t stop laughing.
Mark then said, “NO YOU CAN NOT HAVE THE MONEY!!!  But, the 4 of us can not leave Vegas until we spend it all on fun!” Together we hired a plane and flew over the majestic Grand Canyon & mamoth Hoover Dam on the 16th world’s largest man made lake, Lake Mead . We saw all the top shows including front row lounge seating for Siegfried & Roy Magical Extravaganza, Ceasar’s Palace hit Celebrity Impersonators Show, Frank Marino’s Female Impersonating Review at the Riviera Casino Hotel and bags full of fun Las Vegas souvenirs.
Best of all, the memories we still have and behold today.

Felicia T. Fox
Not only is Felicia one of the nicest girls you will ever meet but also very professional. We were very lucky to have her in GaYBOR for the past couple years.  This week she is starting her new gig at The Hamburger Mary’s Clearwater. Be sure to stop by and show her some love.
