Hamburger Mary’s Has Benefit Holiday Spirit B I N G O

Hip Hip Hooray!!! The packed house at Hamburger Mary’s in GaYBOR/ Ybor City for the benefit charity Ybor City Holiday Spirit Parade. The parade is set for December 14th with a huge parade down 7th Ave with 14 High School Marching Bands, floats, Social Krewes and political leaders. All the winter ambiance under the large snow flakes falling from overhead balconies.
The participants of the BINGO event had a great time. The winner of the raffle won himself a large pallet full of booze. Now, that is a party in itself! The pic’s tell all.
This is the 7th year Ybor City has decorated its streets with beginning help from the GaYBOR District Coalition. Ybor Holiday Spirit Parade is only 3 years old and a major attraction during the holidays. Experience the tallest decorated Christmas Tree in Tampa, the fun parade and the falling snow make for a very festive and talked about GaYBOR/ Ybor City.
This year the Florida Entertainment Group which puts together the big parade event with the oversight planning of set designer, Mathieu Stanoch, is hoping for a parade attendance of over 50,000+.
Oh yes, Santa Claus even gets involved to kick off the holidays in lighting the Holiday Tree in Centro Ybor and being in the memorable Holiday Parade..

You Can Not Make this Up.

Since the Sawmill Campground opened up in the mid 1990’s we have been going there. When they very first opened we would pack our store into the car tunks and set up our Pride Shop in the old Community building on Saturdays & Sundays. Many years we celebrated Mark’s Birthday’s there. One of the first times they had just opened up the primitive cabins. This was way before the trails and nice hotel style cabins they offer today.
Our very small cabin was one room with a very small window  and even smaller tiny window in the door. We were surrounded by 2 dozen friends all in cabins and or tents for the birthday bash.
It was a Monday night. There was the BBQ dinner that Carrie cooked, drinks galore and even greater number of newly made friends and friends that came for the party.
It was about 2AM sitting around the campfire talking, singing, toasting, you got the picture.  Mark went back to the cabin room for something. Then when he was leaving the room the door handles pulled right out of the door and fell on the floor! The door would not open and there was no way anybody could crawl out those tiny windows.  Mark started to freak out. The whole group of drunken friends tried to get the door open.
Luckily our attorney Steve was there. With a calm voice Steve said, ” Don’t worry. If the place starts on fire and you happen to burn up in there, Carrie will get a Great settlement with me as his attorney!!!”
About an hour later, the guys finally got the front desk to wake up the maintenance person to fix the door & let Mark out.
The party then calmly continued!!

Want to help with the All Hallows Ball?
How to help
Now that all the invitations have been mailed many of you have been writing in and asking how you can help ensure the success and continuation of the party. There are two specific ways you can help this year:

  • Help build decorations:
Your hosts are planning another spectacular party for you again this year. There are many decorations that have been designed to transform MOSI into our Dystopia! Your hosts will be busy on multiple weekends between now and the night of the party cutting, painting and assembling all the goodies. If you’re interested in volunteering to assist with the painting and assembly, you may sign up to do so by completing the volunteer form by Clicking Here.
  • Help the night of the party:
No costume? Then become a staff volunteer!  Volunteers are needed the night of the party to help direct guests, ensure the stairways are kept clear, check tickets and assist with general crowd control. Shifts will be approximately 1.5 hours each. You will be provided with an official “All Hallows Masquerade Ball Volunteer” T-shirt which is yours to keep and wear the entire night of the party. Everyone will know that YOU helped out!  If you think that you may enjoy helping in this capacity then Click Here! Some of your hosts were volunteers at first! Please respond no later than October 15th. But why not do it right now?!?

That’s all for now. More to come soon…

Casper

National Coming Out Day, October 11th

National Coming Out Day (NCOD) is an internationally observed civil awareness day for coming out and discussion about people that are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender (LGBT), etc. It is observed by members of the LGBT communities and their supporters (often referred to as “allies”) on October 11 every year, or October 12 in the United Kingdom.

NCOD was founded in 1988 by Robert Eichberg, a psychologist from New Mexico and Jean O’Leary, an openly-gay political leader from Los Angeles, on behalf of the personal growth workshop The Experience and National Gay Rights Advocates.

The date of October 11 was chosen because it was the anniversary of the 1987 National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights

National Anti Bullying Day Oct 17, 2013

On October 17, 2013 millions of Americans will take a stand against bullying by wearing purple on Spirit Day in support of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth. GLAAD is once again working to secure the participation of partner organizations, as well as celebrities, corporations, media outlets, schools and local communities. By going purple on Spirit Day, National Safe Schools Roundtable can easily demonstrate its support for the LGBT community, while taking a stand against bullying.
