JFK in Tampa; 50th Anniversary
We are proud to help in the President John F. Kennedy in Tampa 50th Anniversary Celebration.  There are a number of  events that are happening in honor of the celebrated president who visited our great city in Tampa just 3 days before the assassination in Dallas, Texas in 1963.
Lynn Marvin Dingfelder, chairing the JFK in Tampa events, has a movie about the Presidents visit to Tampa and the 26 mile secured motorcade winding route through the Tampa Streets.  The locally made PBS movie, “JFK in Tampa, 50th Anniversary” has many insights to the president on that mid November day in 1963. From the arrival at MacDill Air Force Base, Bayshore Blvd, downtowns Franklin Street, down Grand Central (what is now Kennedy Blvd) to Howard Ave to the Ft Homer Hesterly National Guard Armory where President Kennedy had a speaking engagement addressing Florida’s State Chamber of Commerce Convention. This was the first time a sitting president had ever come to Tampa.
At the Tampa Bay History Center along the Tampa waterway next to the St. Pete Times Forum is a Special Photo Collection of President Kennedy in Tampa being displayed . This is a limited showing and runs through December 8th.
Upcoming Friday, November 22 at noon is a  President JF Kennedy Salute and Historical Marker Dedication on the corner of Kennedy Blvd and Franklin St in the downtown Lykes Gaslight Park. The monumental ceremony is open to the public.
MC FILM & Florida Entertainment Group are proud to be a part of this historic event. Celebrity guest speakers, the fabulous Tampa Bay Barber shoppers _ Herald of Harmony’s 35 member choir under the direction of Wm. Sipple will be singing an array of patriotic songs.
Thank You to Lynn Marvin Dingfelder in spearheading these memorable Tampa historical events. It is in part of the Hillsborough County History Preservation & Marker Board.

Out & About: Hidden Away – Cypress Point Park

For years we always have asked ourselves what is that white sand park north of the Howard Franklin Bridge on the Tampa north side? Cypress Point Park is a relatively undiscovered treasure with a beautiful beach which we finally went to see. The park includes about a mile of asphalt trails and a few off beat nature trails.
Cypress Point Park offers visitors stunning sunsets, gorgeous white sandy beach walks, protected dunes, beach wildflowers, a wetland and wild seagrass protected area and fishing. Park amenities include a bus stop, ample parking, ADA accessibility, bicycle racks, benches, a boardwalk, a canoe launch and picnic pavilions. A couple of the pavilions have grills next to the shelters.
Besides the pretty view of the W. Westshore Blvd area and the Howard Franklin & Coutney Cambell Bridges you see and hear the sounds of the landing airplanes landing at the nearby Tampa Intl Airport. Located at the end of W. Cypress St.
Truly a very nice surprise to us and for you to experience. Pack a picnic lunch.

You Can Not Make This Up

        Banking Hours… Bail Money!
Mark and his sister, Flora were in Minnesota recently and it was one cold day. They had some estate banking to do at a small town bank. So they looked the Well Fargo Bank hours up on the Internet. It said open at 8:30 AM. The two of them arrived right at 8:30 AM. In the door was a sign that said open at 9 AM.
OK… no big deal the two of them waited in the car since it was 30 degrees & cold outside and no other place to go.  With the car running with heat on the two waited for the bank to open. Cars were pulling in and driving out of the parking lot but not getting out of the cars.
Then a  Sheriff’s car pulled in blocking Mark & Flora’s car. One tall officer (who was Smoking HOT) walked up to the car and motioned to roll down the window. With a big sexy Minnesota smile said, “I can tell you are not from here. There is no front license plate on your car. What are you doing here? I need some ID, please!”
Mark stared as if he was a deer looking into car headlights. Flora was trying to unchill her cold Savanna, GA bones. Both said in harmony to the large Paul Bunyon officer, ” We have a meeting with the bank manager at 9 am!”
“OK,  you are from Florida! But in Minnesota you are not allowed to park in a bank parking lot before the bank opens. That’s the law!”  the Hot officers frosty mouth chanted. The other sheriffs officer was smart and stayed in his warm running cruiser keeping eyes on both Mark & Flora!
“Do you see those cars parked 2 block away at the corner? They are the bank staff waiting for you to leave. They gave us a call. They thought you might possibly be… bank robbers!”
The one Hot officer then check ID’s and said, ” Please just drive around for 20 minutes and then come back.”
They did and everything was OK. The next day Mark & Flora thought about doing it again just to see the super friendly, soft spoken officer again!!!

Ybor City Season Safety by Officer Sean Mahabir

Ybor Watch  https://www.facebook.com/yborcitybusinesswatch?fref=ts

Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year….right around the corner! I can’t believe how fast this year has flown by. Well, with the holidays comes crowds, good cheer, gifts, and mostly everyone’s favorite pastime…spending money. Ybor City is a great place to be….great people and great events….however, I wanted to remind you that there’s always a handful of “Grinches” out there.

Please be safe and turn on your crime radar…there are those that prey on individuals that are too busy to remember the simple rules of being safe. Here are some reminders for everywhere, not just for Ybor City…please pass this along to your employees, family, and friends. I’ll send bits and pieces of safety tips throughout the season if we are seeing any crime trends. Ybor City continues to have a very low crime rate…let’s keep it that way!

  • While out and about, present an alert appearance. Be on Guard!
Be aware of your surroundings; scan the area with your eyes/ears from time to time. Avoid concentrating so hard on shopping or work that you fail to keep track of your surroundings, others near you, or your personal property.

    • Grip carried items firmly and avoid leaving them unattended.
    • Carry minimal cash and valuables, wear minimal jewelry.
    • Get off your cell phone! Concentrate going from point A to point B. (work place to vehicle, mall to vehicle etc.)
    • Shop with friends or relatives if possible; there IS safety in numbers. As you shop, be alert in crowded places. Among pickpockets’ favorites are malls, jammed aisles, elevators, and public transportation stops and vehicles. Carry the day’s most expensive purchases closest to your body, and don’t carry so much you lose the ability to react quickly.

  • When parking…roll up the car windows, lock the vehicle, take the keys, and insure your valuables are concealed (preferably in the trunk). During hours of darkness, park and walk in lighted areas to the extent possible. Keep your wallet, purse, and any other valuables on your person or otherwise out of sight, NOT on the seat next to you. If you must leave valuable items in your car while out and about, place items out of sight before reaching your destination or move them inconspicuously. This includes packages, backpacks, gym bags, GPS units, MP3 players, and so forth. Someone may be watching when you put items under/behind a seat or throw something over them. An opportunistic thief is on the lookout for “trunk-packing”, and can break into your car the minute you’re out of sight. So, be aware of your surroundings before you place valuables in your trunk.

The panhandlers are going to be in full effect and it’s important that our eyes and ears are wide open. Remember, it’s illegal to panhandle in Ybor City, please don’t hesitate to call the police. (Ybor City Flyer attached)

Do me a favor….please reply to this email…say HI! This is going out to over 250 emails in Ybor City! Let me know how things are going.  If you’d like me to come by your business, organization, neighborhood group etc. and discuss safety awareness with your employees, members, and friends….call me and let’s schedule a time.
