Mayor Bob Buckhorn
Mayor Bob Buckhorn joins local muralists Tes One and Bask, along with their incredible team, as they put the finishing touches on the new Poe Parking Garage mural dubbed “Stay Curious.”
“From the Desk of Mayor Buckhorn” is designed to give citizens greater insight into the Mayor’s Office. Every week, Mayor Buckhorn will offer a snippet of what he’s currently working on.“Since the Affordable Healthcare Act, more than 1.7 million Floridians have signed up for healthcare – 77,256 in Hillsborough last year alone. Even with these gains, living without health insurance is still a scary reality for families across the state. Now is the time to learn about your healthcare choices at HealthCare.gov. There, you will find financial assistance, options to find a plan that works for your family, and an application that takes about 10 minutes to complete. The deadline is January 31, 2016. Together, we can make sure no one in our city lives with the fear of getting sick or injured. Tell anyone you know who isn’t insured to visit HealthCare.gov and learn about their choices.”

The Florida Department of Transportation has committed to work with local agencies to research the possibilities.

11/6: Tampa Tribune: Tampa officials see Google Fiber’s potential for tech startups – The announcement of Google Fiber’s potential expansion into the Tampa market has ignited a firestorm of interest into what gigabit internet speeds, 100 times faster than the average internet speed in Florida today, could do for tech-startups and entrepreneurs in Tampa.

11/6: Tampa Bay Business Journal: Here’s what happens when you Google Tampa: – The search engine giant has put Tampa on its map, and that’s leading to a lot of questions about what to expect, and when.

The Belated Friend, Rex Maniscalco’s GLBT Photo Collection
Several years ago Mark & Carrie donated 16 boxes of historic GLBT photos & memorableily from the estate of Rex Maniscalco, to USF Special Library Collections. Rex was a legendary photographer in Tampa Bay having taken  thousands of pictures at the old 1980’s Tampa Pride and other Pride events, Gay Day at Disney, Political arena Photos, area gay bar/club pictures and many of the Tampa Bay GLBT organizations and their charity events.
After several years of library scanning, a portion of the collection is now online for review and historical research at  http://digital.lib.usf.edu/SFS0039845/00001 . USF wants the Special GLBT Library Collection to be one of the largest and re known in the country. There are a lot of chances you may have valuable GLBT memorabilia for the University Special Collection.
We are sure there were a lot of Rex’s cat photos that didn’t make it.
    LOL THANK YOU REX.

You Just Can Not Make This Up

One night we walked into one of our favorite Ybor Gay Bars. A good friend and celebrity bartender who we will call Mike walked in. He insisted on buying us a drink. Mike ordered a round of drinks and asked the bartender (Who knows us all very well) to start a tab. The bartender asked for a credit card which is standard at the club.
Mike said, “You know I always pay in cash. Just start a tab.” The bartender said ‘NO’ and asked for a credit card again.
Mike then took his…. shoes off and slammed them on the bar top saying a little upsetting, “Here keep my shoes you know I’m not walking out with out them!!!”
We all laughed. The next day we saw Mike and commented on how funny it was last night when he left his shoes on the bar top. Mike looked surprised and said, “OMG!! I lost my shoes last night! Do you think I paid my tab?”
After several calls we found out that Mike did pay his tab and told them to keep his shoes.  LOL
