Summer Free Agent Day 8/13/17

The Suncoast Softball League, the Tampa Bay area’s largest GLBTA sports league, holds its summer softball skills day for new players interested in joining the league on Sunday August 13th (rescheduled from July 30th rainout). Our league plays in the spring, summer and fall (as well as tournaments around the country including the Gay Softball World Series). Our Tampa tournament, the GasparillaSoftballClassic.com, happens each President’s Day in February.

Players are placed in divisions based on their individual level of play, from recreation (or where beginners normally start) to intermediate to advanced. At the skills day, players will field ground balls, throw, catch fly balls and hit. Registration begins at 9:30; practice at 10:00!

Whether you already have a team, or you are new and starting from scratch (we can place you on a team), you’re welcome to join us.

Once the day is over, we’ll have our social event of the day called Extra Innings. Extra Innings events are usually held at the end of each day of play. We leave softball behind and meet new friends or renew old ones. Sunday 8/13’s Extra Innings will be at one of our league’s original sponsors, City Side Lounge, 3703 Henderson Blvd in south Tampa. The event will start at 2pm and run until 6pm. The #Rays play at the #Indians that afternoon chasing 1st place!

I was talking with a good friend one day. She told me that she was the ultimate “Hall and Oats” fan. Everyday she just had to hear at least one of their songs. When she was away from home and her music, she would actually call… The “Hall and Oats Emergency Hot Line!” I laughed and said “That can’t me true. There really isn’t a Hall and Oats Emergency Hotline???? Is there???”   Yes there is and here is the number 719 266-2837 “OMG Its REAL!!! ” When you call they give the choice of 4 songs. then play the whole song. LOL You Just Can’t make This Up!!!

     Balance Tampa Bay’s Masquerade Ball Charity Benefit had a packed house at the Ritz on Saturday night. Lively expressions of disguises of all sorts, ornate masks, facial paintings and colorful costumes for a night of glitz and socializing, It was the groups third year for the very successful ‘Balck & White’ event.
    This year the Tampa Bay LGBT philanthropy groups benefit of choice went to EPIC, Empath Partners in Care with locations in Clearwater, St. Pete and Tampa. It is the new face and entity for former Suncoast  Project, ASAP and Tampa’s Francis House.
    The nights special spinning master was international famed VJ/DJ Toy Armanda. And the high energized music and dancing just didn’t stop.
    Congratulations Balance Tampa Bay on an event so supportive to the needs of the LGBT.

You Just Can Not Make This Up

In 1980 we were going to USF. Mark was bartending at Casa De Largo, a Mexican restaurant on Fowler ave. mark had a favorite pair of very beat up shoes. They were so bad that his toe was sticking out of one! Carrie was out shopping a picked up a new pair of shoes for Mark. Just as Mark was getting off, he took the new shoes to the restaurant to surprise him…. Mark changed into them right away. Then the group cheered to the new shoes.  As a joke Mark put the shoes up on a shelf above the bar that was full of memorable Mexican  junk. Several years later we came back and the shoes were still there!!!!
