Original from Philly PA he moved here in the 1980’s and is living in Ybor City. Baldwin Moves Closer to Run for U.S. Senate
U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., an out lesbian, said this week that she is likely to give up the relative safety of her House seat to run for the Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Herb Kohl, D-Wis. Baldwin said she’s unwilling to change her positions to satisfy the conventional wisdom that a progressive would have a tougher time winning statewide. “It is daunting these days the way people are personally demeaned for holding a view, and yet I fear good people won’t step forward and run for office if we don’t set an example,” Baldwin said.
 
U.S. Diplomats Host Pakistan’s First LGBT Pride Celebration
The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan, has hosted the country’s first LGBT Pride celebration. Though the country’s laws are hostile to LGBT citizens, an embassy official said the U.S. intends to stand by LGBT Pakistanis “every step of the way.” Religious groups critical of homosexuality condemned the event, calling it “social terrorism.”
 
Obama Appoints Lesbian vet to West Point Board
President Barack Obama this week announced his appointment of Brenda S. “Sue” Fulton to West Point’s Board of Visitors. Fulton, a 1980 West Point graduate, served in the Army for five years, reaching the rank of captain. She’s been active in associations for LGBT military personnel including OutServe and Knights Out, a group for LGBT West Point grads

Our team consisting of Gregory Brady , Lou Anne Karlin and Shey Gourley for Brady Karlin Events, Sadie Ruiz, Manager for Beso Del Sol, Mike Bell , ASAP, Joe Nash, Anti-Bullying Conference and Mae Roman, Co-Chair North Pinellas Pride would like to invite you to join us for our first event.
 
All of us at Brady Karlin Events and Beso Del Sol Resort in Dunedin are excited to start the fund, friend and awareness raising leading up to the official North Pinellas Pride Weekend.   Being the host hotel is an honor for the second year is an honor for Beso Del Sol.   We will not only have great deals on your weekend stay in the midst of all of the activities for the weekend,  but events to raise money right now for North Pinellas Pride , ASAP of Hospice and the Anti Bullying Conference Dunedin.
 
Our first event is a limited seated “Advocacy Dinner” for the Anti Bullying Conference.  Susan Latvala, Chair of the Pinellas County Commission who was instrumental in the writing and passage of the Human Right Ordinance will lead off our speakers for the evening.  We will hear from Joe Nash, the 17 year old Dunedin High School Student about how the Anti Bullying Conference began and where it is today, Ron Barnette, Dunedin’s Vice Mayor will speak to the Proclamation issued last year by our Mayor, other notables, including our first openly LBGT candidate for Pinellas County Commission, have been  invited to speak..  Get exited for our mystery speaker who will come to us from around the world, An international athlete personality, He’s on ice and waiting to share his experiences.The evening will be hosted by a former Miss Gay U S of A Miss Natasha Richards.
 
The delicious food will be provided by The Livingroom on Main. Cocktails by Marker 8 with special pricing on Absolut San Fransisco with our signature drink for Pride – the Absolut Advocate.  Join us in our newly renovated event venue at Beso Del Sol for this worthwhile event.

Dishing with Mark & Carrie 7-7-11

 * GaYBOR Days Health Fair
    The 7th Ave FREE Community Health & Wellness Fair was held at the new and beautifully restored large Metro Wellness & Community Center on 7th Ave in historic Ybor City. Sixteen companies displayed information and offered a variety of Free medical testing to the many attendees including American Cancer Society, American Diabetes, Bioscrip Pharmacy, Metro Wellness, Sonia Plotnick Women’s Health Fund, FORGE, Tampa Bay Crisis Center, Russell Fox Massage, Walgreen’s Pharmacy, and the Veterans Administration. The band, Roots of our Culture, played for the event outside in the Metro Wellness patio prior to the rain storm. The event was a co-sponsored event by the Ybor City Development Corp.
    It is giving back to all the people in need during this economic slowdown including bartenders, restaurant workers, artists and families in the Ybor City area to receive medical monitoring and testing for a healthier city. Health wellness fairs are happening in all parts of the country and Ybor isn’t immune to this non insured medical crisis.
   Refreshments and food was donated by Ritz Ybor, Bioscrip Pharmacy and NY, New York Pizza.

GaYBOR Days Harvey Milk Movie Night

    Friday night started out with dining out at many GaYBOR restaurants and showcasing the neuvo eclectic district. At the Blue Dog Bistro a pre-movie party had a chance to meet up with special guests. The special guest, Stuart Milk, human rights activists and nephew to gay slain supervisor in San Francisco Harvey Milk addressed the audience with his memorable recollections of his uncle and mission of the Harvey Milk Foundation. The movie, “The Times of Harvey Milk” was shown to the Turkey National Assembly and to the French Parliament bodies of government. Proclamations were given to GaYBOR Days 2011 board members from Hills County Board of Commissioner Kevin Beckner. He questioned the reasoning of the other county commissioners not wanting to sign the proclamation in a growing and steadfast Historic Ybor City. Sally Phillips, President of Florida GLBT Democratic Caucus, spoke about her recent GLBT leaders dinner with President Barack Obama about GLBT political issues. Florida Other proclamations were received from the White House- President Barack Obama, U.S. House of Representatives Cathy Castor, Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn and from the entire City of Tampa City Council.

* GaYBOR Days Annual Bar Crawl

    The GaYBOR Bar Crawl on Sunday was nothing less than an adventure of meeting new friends and tasting some 15 new tasty concoctions at the same number of shot stops. Heading the hundreds of participating revelers was none other than Mama from the Reservoir Bar dressed with a 4th of July colored scepter and wearing a swank risque dress!. All along the streets of Ybor people toasted and cheered the 4th of July celebration bar hoppers. Bands were playing at Play, Crowbar, Green Iguana, JJ’s, Centro Cantina, Gaspar’s Grotto and ended at Hamburger Mary’s with RuPaul’s Drag Race Winners Alexis Demateo.
