And then you thought we only had the self credentialed Rev Fred Phelps and his perverted family from Westboro Baptist! Here are some of the new campaign hate messages;
Sons of Thundr website called “Sodomites can be Saved” where it claims “All homos are: sick, brain damaged, perverts!” Public Advocates says ads warned of a gay conspiracy to “create a new America.” Parents Action League called for a revision of school curriculum to include “ex-homosexual therapy.” Linda Harvey hosts the Mission:America radio show and has said gays “hate Jesus Christ,” and that employers shouldn’t hire LGBT people. Pastor Tom Brown launched a campaign to take away health benefits from the spouses of LGBT city employees, warning that local leaders wanted “to reward fornicators.”

Perhaps dozens of young Iraqi men and boys suspected of being gay have been murdered in recent weeks, as news reports describe some being found with their skulls crushed by cement blocks. So far the attacks appear to target young men who dress in a style known in Iraq as “emo.” Iraqi officials say they are unsure what groups are behind the killing spree, but the government itself has said emo youths are a menace, and has labeled their style of dress “Satanic.”

It warns people identified as Japanese Haider, Allawi the Bra, Mohammed the Flower and others: Reform your behavior, stop being gay, or face deadly consequences.
“It’s a clear war on sexual minorities on Iraq. They are refusing to admit it,” said Ali Hili, a London-based gay Iraqi activist who claims that as many as 750 gay Iraqis have been murdered during the past six years. The New York Times

Adamo Drive Mural Project
Hello Carrie,
We are finally getting to the design of the mural and opening up the conversation about the content to community members who take an active role in the spirit of Ybor. I’ve included a brief description of the project below. We are looking for community members to participate in the designing of the image which will span an entire city block on Adamo. We would like folks in the community that would be willing to talk candidly about their experiences and life in Ybor City. We feel that the community that will be looking at it should be able to give their input and participate in the making of it.
We are not only looking for an historical context but also a contemporary vision of the vitality and growth of the neighborhood. I wanted to make sure that you were included in the conversation.
Below are the dates, times and locations of the open forums, as well as ways to participate online.
We would love to have you tell us about life here. If these dates don’t work or would rather have us come to you for more of a one on one at your convenience, let me know.

Artist Michael Parker and students from HCC Ybor are gathering information about the Ybor City community to form an accurate, contemporary representation of Ybor City’s Identity to be included within the mural image to be located at 18th st. on Adamo Drive. We would like to hear from people that live work and play here and are passionate about it.
Offer a perspective that would be a good visual or tell us your favorite story about Ybor. How has the vision of Ybor City changed and where is it going? Please help us to represent our community with a high impact image that community members will be proud to have in our neighborhood.
The Adamo Drive Mural Project is a joint public and private effort to enhance the appeal of the Ybor Historic District for visitors and residents. It’s value is twofold – to create stunning public artworks and to inspire everyone to rediscover the unique beauty and heritage of our National Historic District.

The Artists
Mike Parker and Carl Cowden are well known local muralists with degrees from UT and USF. They will engage community and youth groups throughout all aspects of design and production. Mike intends to incorporate a Hillsborough Community College art class into his project.

Tampa Domestic Partner Registry
It is about time to follow the leader. This time Tampa City Council is following what Orlando and other Florida cities have passed, the Domestic Partner Registry. The proposal by Tampa City Council woman Yvonne “Yolie” Capin announcing in the Tampa Council chambers, has a greater and positive affect for all the Tampa Bay area. Maybe even to Hillsborough County!!!
” It is the right thing to do for Tampa residents.” stated the councilwoman in a sit down chat. “I believe that my fellow council members also feel this as a positive direction.” A grandbaby was due the day she announced the registry propasal . ” I just want to say that your grandma did something on your birthday to make the world better.” she added.
The registry ordinance is now 3 months old in Orlando is the footprint model that Councilwoman Capin is using for Tampa’s draft proposal. The registry is for both same-sex and unmarried couples over the age of 18. It helps in legal medical matters, school children concerns and some legal situations.
“It is not legalized same-sex marriage. It is the right decision for fairness and is a positive step forward for the Tampa community.” stated Carrie West of GaYBOR District Coalition. “I talked with Yolie and told her that I thought that she really didn’t know what she was doing. I want to let you know that you are making huge Tampa Bay history in a great positive way.” I smiled and gave her a big Ybor hug.
The domestic partner registry draft proposal will be held March 15th, on the Tampa City Council agenda in the Tampa City Council chambers at 9;:00 am.

The muchly talked about Carne Chop House in Centro Ybor is set to open in the next few weeks. The location is in the old Olivier’s French Bistro in El Centro Espenol de Tampa on 7th Ave. Good Luck!!! Lights! Camera! Action! Oh let the movie reels fly as GaYBOR District receives more new tenants. Yes, we are proud to say that the Tampa International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival Board has relocated their offices to the Metro Wellness & Community Center on 7th. The new offices are to be in place by April 1st. A new restaurant will be opening soon at the location of the old Opa Taverna on 7th Ave. It’s specialty …. Italian.
The change of heart from Tampa’s city leaders will have the YCDC keeping their old address on 7th. They were set to move to the Tampa’s German-American Building at the corner of Palm & Nebraska Ave. Some of the officers of GaYBOR are heading north to New Orleans for an outing! And for cocktails can we say …. Hurricaine! Speaking of adult beverages, Historic Ybor City now has a drink named for its long military history called, ‘ The Roughrider.’ A combination of Jack Daniel’s, Amaretto and sour. It is being served at bars and clubs all over Ybor City! Our #1 nephew of Dishing with Mark & Carrie and longtime friend /employee, Keith Frey (KC) had pancreatic surgery Friday at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. He will be in the hospital for a few weeks. Give him a cheer up card on his facebook. RuPaul & St. Pete Pride
Is St. Pete Pride going to take the lead of the St. Petersburg Times Newspaper and changing it’s name? There have been several articles, one by gaytravel.com, http://gaytravel.about.com/od/previewsofpridefestivals/qt/StPete_Pride.htm calling St. Pete Pride 2012 – Tampa Bay Pride 2012 in a quote “a celebration for the entire Tampa Bay region”. We (Mark & Carrie) were at the very first St. Pete Pride meeting at Grand Central Station. Together with Judy B. Goode we also hosted the very first fundraiser for St. Pete Pride and have supported pride every year since. We think this would be a very bold & positive move for the whole community.

The Ybor Wall War Over Guavaween
Turmoil and smoldering embers strikes local Ybor City merchants over the Annual Guavaween Parade in October during Halloween. The 30 year old Ybor City Night Party has had some scathing reviews in the past couple of years for its exclusivity. The annual event is put on by the Ybor City Chamber of Commerce. A new group of allies was formed for the property & business owners, The Ybor Merchant Association.
Local merchants have vented their concerns in post Guavaween public meetings. Outcry comes from the fence that is put up all around Ybor City business district and deterring business on Guavaween. Now that the new Ybor City Association has formed, it wants to help change the way Guavaween operates. 1st item on their agenda is to eliminate the fence around Ybor City for the event and work with the Ybor Chamber on alternatives.
“It just turns people away with $17.00 per person admission and $30.00 parking charges on a Saturday night.” said a Ybor businessman not being disclosed. “We were told that after last years Guavaween, the Chamber only made $ 25,000 profit. The local merchants I have heard from, put on a petition and stated, that they have lost over a $ 200,000 that night!”
It isn’t just an Ybor Chamber event it is a major community event benefiting the Ybor Chamber. Ybor City Development Corp. (YCDC), have also helped extinguish tarnish from the recent years branded event. YCDC Board is made up of local Ybor City business persons and residents for economically recognizing and promoting the Landmark Historic Ybor City.
A public meeting is set for Tampa City Council March 15th in the downtown Tampa Council Chambers at 9:00 am to discuss the upcoming fall event.

Goode Bye to Davy Jones
Today is a sad Goode Bye to Davy Jones, 66, of the famous 1960’s TV musical group, the Monkeys. Davy didn’t know that I had my 1st Gay crush on him at age 11. I loved hanging out with him & the band on TV. Of course I had all the alums & knew all the words. How Gay was that!!! Then it was David Cassidy of the Partridge Family. Oh how I wanted to ride on the bus with David. When William Shatner as Captain James T. Kurt of the USS Enterprise would wrestle aliens with his shirt off I knew I was way GAY! So it’s a sad Good bye to Davy Jones. I will forever remember you as my 1st TV Gay Crush. OH and as for William Shatner today…. not so big crush anymore!!!! LOL LOL … Tea Cup
