Metro Wellness & Community Centers held their Annual Fund raiser at Stetson College of Law in Gulfport.The annual fund drive supports the many LGBTA groups at the 3 Metro Wellness Centers.

The special night also had heroes receiving 3 very honored community awards. Our dear friend, Bob Pope handed out the Robert Pope Distinguished Leadership Award to St. Petersburg Deputy Mayor Dr. Kanika Tomain. Christina Burke received the Spirit of Excellence Award or working in Tampa Bay’s HIV community. Todd Richardson, a photorapher, graphic artist and part of Equality Florida for years of serving the LGBTA community.

In the 1990’s we bought custom made gay themed T-shirts at our MC FILM stores from Todd.

The big surprise was sharing the honor of Lorraine Langlois serving Metro Wellness for 25 years. Congratulations Lorraine because 1 person does make a difference.

The additional Silent Auction had products and services from around Florida up for bid.

Hamburger Mary’s Tampa Closed

There was very sad news, yesterday for the Community and 48 Hamburger Mary’s & Mary’s Pub House Tampa employees (including Tea Cup).  The owners’ decided to close this location. We wish everyone nothing but the very best in the future.

Hamburger Mary’s Bar & Grille Tampa

It is with great regret that Kurt King and Brian DeChane must announce that tonight will be the last day/night that Hamburger Mary’s Bar and Grill and Hamburger Mary’s Pub House in Ybor City will be open. We, along with our Management Team and dedicated staff, have done our best to keep Mary’s doors open for nine years, but the latest challenge over the last couple of weeks has proven to be too much to overcome. It was our pleasure to serve the entire community whether it was a safe place to come and enjoy a meal amongst friends or a place to hold your community fundraisers.

We are proud of our staff and greatly appreciate all they have done over the years. We wish to thank our customers and the full Ybor/Tampa community for all of your support. If you wish to come out to Mary’s tonight to show your support to Mary’s fabulous staff, we are sure they will appreciate it.

The Suncoast Softball Turn-a-bout Party

Last night at Bradley’s on 7th was our annual turnabout Fund Raiser for charity, SSL’s Got Talent. The evening was outstanding, with tons of fun and over $1,000 in raffle prizes. Here’s the 2018-19 Royal Court: Mr. SSL is Jenny Jones from Thunder D; Miss SSL finishers: 2nd runner up is Adam Sparks from Benchwarmers; 1st runner up is Steven Meyers from Shade; and winner is Rony Melghem from Jokers. Also competing were first timers Andrew Pruss from Metro Chefs and Jonathon Coppola from Woofpack. In addition, 8 teams made their $200+ recommendations: Aces, Dog Pound, Dynasty, Krewe, Morning Wood, Pitch Slapped, Starlets, & Veritas.

 

We estimate the total raised to be over $9,000 (a couple of pledges are coming in this week), $1,800 for each of our 5 charities. This is almost double what we hoped for!

 

We’d like to extend thanks to league sponsor Bradley’s on 7th for allowing us to stage our event and for their generous donations. Also thanks go out to league sponsor Hamburger Mary’s for their generous donations. Thanks also to League sponsor and community partner St Pete Pride for a generous prize package to multiple events including their upcoming Red & Green Party. And final thanks to community partner Tampa Pride who also donated a prize package including 2 tickets to the upcoming kickoff party Pride-Zoo-La!
