Hillsborough Charter Review Board
Every 5 years the Hillsborough Charter Review Board, selected community members (14) by the Hillsborough County Board of Commissioners review items to be added or deleted to the county’s charter or our county constitution.
This past Tuesday under consideration was an amendment that would have barred discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity to be put on the county referendum ballot for November 2016.
The measure was voted down 11-1 against the charter amendment. If passed it would have gone to the county ballot on a referendum. That was the only item on the Charter Review’s agenda. Both liberal and conservatives were on the same side on this issue for once.
GLBT individuals already have that right against discrimination and exists in Hillsborough County that commissioners passed in a 2014 ordinance by a grassroots community effort.
“There isn’t really a need for something that already constitutes and exists for GLBT protections in Hillsborough County.” said Carrie West,.
GaYBOR District, PFLAG, Equality Florida and a lot of businesses in Hillsborough County all helped and presented the needed change in the county back in 2014.
Village Inn
Over the past 30+ years we have seen the Village Inn on Dale Mabry go thru many changes. It has just been re decorated and renovated to a retro 1960’s looks. All freshly decorated in new tones, orange & browns with chrome accents. Talk about a full circle. I love the pancakes there!
Years ago the owner, Dow Sherwood would walk up to tables and tell very racy jokes. He really was a very personable man. The first time on a visit there, he did this. We thought who is that old guy?
