Ybor Youth Clinic

A start of another new GLBT health related business in GaYBOR/ Ybor City. The opening of the new  Ybor Youth Clinic sponsored by Lazy Days Employee Foundation and University of South Florida Health. The 1st floor clinic is underneath Metro Wellness & Community Center on 1315 East 7th Ave. 7th Ave in Ybor City.
The new director Jeremiah, said that teams of physicians from USF Adolescent Medicine and USF Health Pediatric Infectious Diseases Division and other local doctors are participating and on board. Volunteer students in USF Medical School are also giving a helping hand to the youth program. The clinic works mainly with high risk youth including HIV positive, homeless and street youth, and GLBT youth 13-24 years of age.
The new facility has 3 bright white medical examining rooms, 3 patient / doctor conference rooms, group meeting room, staff rooms, and a large conference.
This is the beginning of another level of the untraditional medical healthcare that doesn’t exist in most other major cities.  We welcome the commitment from USF Health attitude toward making a better and inclusive community and the help of forethought thinking Lazy Days Employees group for this groundbreaking healthcare clinic.
A Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting was held with Mayor Bob Buckhorn cutting the ribbon on October 12th.
“Though the health clinic is now operational and open, a community open house is being set up for local community leaders and businesses in Tampa in January.” said Jeremiah.

Night Out in St. Pete

What a fun night out in St. Pete.  A group of 4 GaYBOR Board Members made the trip to QueensHead Restaurant to meet the new Executive President, President & Vice President of St. Pete Pride. Behind the bar was one of our favorite nephews  Sonny of Sonny n Steve! We dcecied to go for a walk around the Central Ave district. Walking past the now closed Grand Central Station-Detours brought back many great memories. In to the Lucky Star! All the new improvements were very impress. Bartender and local actor Daniel Harris was holding court to a packed house. Across the street we stopped at a new bar. The Garage on Central Ave. The owners actually own the car garage next doors. The decor was very mannly garage. Behind the bar was “Just Jake”. The garage attendant eager to pump the men with antifreeze!!! The owner was there with a big group of patrons and seamed very nice too. This will definitly be a stop on our next trip. Just a few blocks way is GaYBOR Member, “The Queen & I Restaurant.”  Bryan’s welcome of DARLINGS made us all feel at home. The Thai food was over the top fab as always. As we were traveling back over the bridge we all said, “That as so much fun we need to make the trip more often.” Everybody laughed and said “That’s probably what St. Pte says about GaYBOR too.”

You Just Can Not Make This Up

The First time you had sex?
Carrie is always teasing Mark about his big stack of notes written on guest checks. LOL LO That is because there is always something going on at the balcony at Hamburger Mary’s.  One night we were between shows and Miss Joey Brooks was holding court on the end of the bar. A performer we will call Miss R, who we will just say was FULL OF LIFE (Cocktailed), came out to the bar. Before we knew it she was on top of the bar voueging. She laid out on the bar top & ordered a shot for everybody. Lifted the shot and said “Here’s to the first time we all had sex! I’m sure you all remember the first time!!!! I do it was at Miss Joey Brooks house!” You could have heard a pin drop as Miss Brooks actually put down her goldschlouger and said “OOOOO” Miss R then announced “Yes it was Fantastic I was 18 and he was a much older man…21 years old! We were in your backyard waiting for you to get home from a show late one night. and was with …. (famous bartender) . The things you hear on Hamburger Mary’s balcony!!! LOL LOL LOL

People are Talking
WOW so now General Petraeus sex partner … no sex partner (friend) is having an affair (sex no sex) with a second Tampa famed MacDill AFB general? The reporters are all confused as should we!!! For years the running South Tampa joke was, “Why did the women of Bayshore Blvd. stop having group sex? Answer… There were just too many Thank You notes to write!” I guess email hasn’t changed all that. Just gotta love good straight family values. Just say’ n. Moving on to a whole different topic. What is better for your Birthday Gift than diamonds? Well if you happen to the most famous saxophone player in Florida, Alan Darcy, it would be a Theo Wanne http://theowanne.com/ mouth piece. Alan’s husband surprised him on stage with this gift. (Just for the records it cost way more than a diamond LOL LOL). Here is a clip of Alan with his new mouth piece sounding great!!!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXOfsY0wmRE

GaYBOR/Ybor City Community Officer Sean Mahabir
Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year….right around the corner! I can’t believe how fast this year has flown by. Well, with the holidays comes crowds, good cheer, gifts, and mostly everyone’s favorite pastime…spending money. Ybor City is a great place to be with great people and enjoy great events….however, I wanted to remind you that there’s always a handful of Grinches (Bad Guys) out there.
Please be safe and turn on your crime radar…there are those that prey on individuals that are too busy to remember the simple rules of being safe. Here are some reminders for everywhere, not just for Ybor City…please pass this along to your employees, family, and friends. I’ll send bits and pieces of safety tips throughout the season.
While out and about, present an alert appearance. Be on Guard!
Be aware of your surroundings; scan the area from time to time. Avoid concentrating so hard on shopping or work that you fail to keep track of your surroundings, others near you, or your personal property.
    • Grip carried items firmly and avoid leaving them unattended.
    • Carry minimal cash and valuables, wear minimal jewelry.
    • Get off your cell phone! lol Concentrate going from point A to point B. (work place to vehicle, mall to vehicle etc.)
    • Shop with friends or relatives if possible; there IS safety in numbers. As you shop, be alert in crowded places. Among pickpockets’ favorites are malls, jammed aisles, elevators, and public transportation stops and vehicles. Carry the day’s most expensive purchases closest to your body, and don’t carry so much you lose the ability to react quickly.
When parking…roll up the car windows, lock the vehicle, take the keys, and insure your valuables are concealed (preferably in the trunk). During hours of darkness, park and walk in lighted areas to the extent possible. Keep your wallet, purse, and any other valuables on your person or otherwise out of sight, NOT on the seat next to you. If you must leave valuable items in your car while out and about, place items out of sight before reaching your destination or move them inconspicuously. This includes packages, backpacks, gym bags, GPS units, MP3 players, and so forth. Someone may be watching when you put items under/behind a seat or throw something over them. An opportunistic thief is on the lookout for “trunk-packing”, and can break into your car the minute you’re out of sight. So, be aware of your surroundings before you place valuables in your trunk.
The panhandlers are going to be in full effect and it’s important that our eyes and ears are wide open. Remember if they get aggressive, please don’t hesitate to call the police. Nothing will ruin your holiday season more than being the victim of a crime.
Do me a favor….please reply to this email…say HI! Let me know how things are going.  Always know that if you’d like me to come by and discuss safety tips with your employees….call me and let’s schedule a time.

You Just Can Not Make This Up

Not to bright robber
This past Thursday night around 11:30 all of a sudden there were fire trucks, ambulances, dozens of Tampa Police & Supervisor cars in front of MC Film along 15th Street. Carrie said out loud, “WHAT DID MARK DO NOW!?!?!” For a change Mark was innocent & hadn’t done anything. A thief had just stole a motor scooter. The police were in a hot pursuit of the stolen bikester. The not to fast thinking criminal turned down the alley next to MC Film & YRS. Only to find it was a dead end running into the Muvico Theatre walls.  There was a space 10-14 inches between Muvico Theaters & the next warehouse. The ‘not so bright’ robber tried to squeeze thru it and you guessed it… got stuck. The police & firemen were all laughing as they were snapping photos. The robber was so stuck that the fire department had to come out and hoist him up 3 stories to get him out. Then onto jail!!!
