I was bartending at a Gay bar in St. Petersburg called “Ding-a-Lings”. YES, that was really the name of the bar located on Central Ave.. It was a small former straight strip club. In the center of the room the all shiny slick stripper pole was still there.

One day in walked 2 young straight couples. They were drinking and making out. A regular friendly party I would say. Putting on quite the show. Then in walked 2 young Smoking HOT Gay Guys. The Gay guys were dancing and started to play and swing with the stripper pole. The next thing you know there are the 2 straight guys competing with the 2 Gay guys who could work the chromed shiny pole, the best!

After a couple more drinks the 4 guys left together leaving the 2 girls behind. I walked up to them and asked where their dates went to. They smiled and said, “They always leave us in this bar.”

I just smiled and thought to myself, “These poor girls really have no idea their boyfriends are GAY!!!” LOL

Rebecca Sexton Larson and Matt Larson present an exhibition of historic photo processes including salt print, bromoil and collodion works. In addition, the artists will showcase their collaborative mobile studio project, the Boxfotos Airstream on the Ybor Campus the night of the opening.

Matt Larson has been working and playing with plastic toy cameras since the mid-90s. His affinity for toy cameras ignited as result of professional burnout. Thirty years in to his professional photography career, he discovered the joy of playing with simple, stress free toy cameras. Upon seeing the very first roll of images from his 1970 plastic Diana camera, he was hooked and for the first time in his career, began making personal, fine art images. Larson says, “It has taken me almost four decades to return to those early childhood years when I would play with the camera, than merely interact with it on a technical level. Ironically, the tool [the camera] that was given to me by an adult when I was young, I’m just now learning to play with.” Larson currently works in the wet plate collodion and salt print processes. His work is in numerous public and private collections, as well as in the collections of the Tampa Museum of Art and the Polk Museum of Art. Rebecca Sexton Larson is a Tampa based studio artist working with historic photographic processes. She graduated from the University of South Florida with a degree in Fine Arts and a degree in Mass Communications. She was awarded Florida Individual Artist Fellowships in 1998, 2002, and 2008. In 2006, she received an Artist Enhancement Grant from the State of Florida and, in 2005, was commissioned by the City of Tampa to be Photographer Laureate for a year. During the past 20 years, Sexton Larson has taught, lectured and exhibited work nationally at various arts institutions and organizations. Sexton Larson’s photographs are in numerous major collections throughout the country, including: Polaroid, Progressive Corporate Art, Graham Nash (Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young), Holland and Knight Law Firm, Polk Museum of Art, Museum of Fine Arts and the Tampa Museum of Art. Most recently her work appears in the book Poetics of Light by Eric Renner and Nancy Spencer.
