Baxter’s name has been a Tampa GLBT gay bar since 1982. It is Tampa’s oldest Gay Bars. Starting just blocks South of Kennedy Blvd on Dale Mabry for many years then relocating to Britton Plaza and returning to its present location in 1998.
Recently Baxter’s owner, Angelo Montanaro past away unexpectedly last Halloween week but the bar stayed open.
New group means New remodeling, Flooring, paint and upgraded bathrooms are first on the list we were told. Other changes are in the plans. New and continued events and added entertainment including karaoke and new drag shows.

He was on tour with married partner, Andy Bell of the English singing group, Erasure doing a West Europe Concert this past month. New directions in local politics as Hillsborough County Commissioner Kevin Beckner is making his move to another county position. Plans for what position are still unknown. Also local Tampa City Council District 6 candidate race, Guido Maniscalco put in his paperwork for the Citywide Tampa, March 2015 election.
Many of our friends and family have seen the controversial spoof movie from Sony Pictures about North Korea leader, Kim Jong-un assassination attempt in “The Interview”. Is this Media corporate publicity hype or serious reality? Did anyone else download the film? Tell us your opinion.
The media is trying to find out in Ybor City if the new opening to Cuba Trade is a good idea. So far most are pleased with the positive trade agreement, opening up tourism and ending the trade embargo between the United States /Cuba.

Divinity Everlasting
Lady Divinity moved to Tampa from Miami. performing at all the top clubs in Florida. Her daytime job is to look beautiful at Hamburger Mary’s in GaYbor. She greets everybody with a big beautiful smile.
You Can Not Make this Up.
Remember when you were young children and would get caught doing something suspiciously wrong by the squinting neighbor lady? This past week Miss Esme Russell was on her way to work, out of make-up full of positivism and going to Hamburger Mary’s in Centro Ybor.
There in the holiday decorated 7th Ave courtyard were some kids trying to put rave posters on the big Christmas Tree. With out any hesitation Esme dropped her bags and ran up to the kids shouting in English then Spanish or both.
“Don’t be messing with the Gay’s Christmas tree!!! You go home to your own houses and mess up your straight trees…. LEAVE THE GAY’s TREE ALONE!!!!”
The kids stunned went running down 7th Ave after the scolding! I bet those kids will be talking about this for the rest of their lives!!!
Leave the Gay’s tree alone!!!!!!!

Dishing with Mark & Carrie 12-23-14 Happy Holidays
Thank You for Our 25 Years in Business
First of all Mark & Carrie want to extend Holiday Cheer to Everyone this Festive time of Year.
Yes, 25 years in life and in business goes by quickly. We both can attest to that. Originally MC FILM FESTIVAL was to be a small part time satisfying dream we had that has changed and re-focused our lives. 25 years have past us in our GLBT business but a lot more ideas and goals are coming forth for the next 25 years!
From Civic organizers, social participants, political leaders to being human rights activists and helping our GLBT community in ways most will never realize.
Face it, all we want is Basic Equality and Fairness for all.
Thank You to everyone we have come in contact with, everyone makes a difference in our lives. As we all go down that Rainbow Road together, look to the beautifully begotten friends and acquaintances we have for a more positive world in 2015!

Florida Pro-Equal Marriage Moves Forward Jan 6th
With a bumpy road to end the ban on Florida’s Same Sex Marriage issue the higher court has spoken. The U.S. Supreme Court (7-2) decision will NOT keep the Florida Attorney General’s implemented stay on Ban of Same Sex Marriages in Florida after Jan 5th. The ruling makes Florida #36 state to provide EQUAL MARRAIGE in the United States. With the stay denied after Jan 5th Pro- Equal Marriages and to receive federal spouse benefits to already married couples. The special date given the go ahead is set for Jan 6, 2014 at 12:01 am.
Attorney General Pam Bondi commented, “The state of Florida wanted a clear ruling on same sex marriage from the upper courts.” No further comments have been given.
Still some what unclear is if all the Florida counties will be granted the right to issue Same Sex Marriage licenses. Only in Washington County in the Florida panhandle that some legal experts are saying, Only Washington County clerks can issue Same Sex Marriage licenses after January 5th..
ACLU representing Florida gay couples are asking for a clear and definitive ruling for the state’s county clerks.

Phantom Of the Opera
The new updated musical play tour of the “Phantom of the Opera” is playing now thru Jan 4th at the Tampa Straz Performing Arts Center. Our initial experience of seeing this famous musical production was at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s music was and still is triumphant!
We really enjoyed the modern technological set changes in this production. The new sets and colorful costumes were much more in the period time.
You actually feel like your in the Old Paris Opera Hall. New modern period sets and a new updated costuming and rhythms to partake. The inner focus is now on the actors voices & tempo’d music.
This is a must see before the tour leaves.
New Gay Bar Opening
The rumors are flying!! There will soon be a new Gay Bar opening in South Tampa. Well, new with an old Tampa traditional name, Baxter’s Lounge on Dale Mary. New owners with many major remodeling changes and expansions we were told.
Charity Benefit Area School
Each year a selected elementary school is selected to receive the proceeds from a holiday charity party by Lance Becatti and office partners from Ameriprise Financial Planners in south Tampa. Many local celebrities, political leaders, partners and friends attended the outside holiday soiree. The hands on Italian buffet with chefs making up your best Italian wishes, a tall ravishing Holiday Tree for all the donated school supplies to be displayed. Iit was a great beautiful night for a benefit.
From Feeding America Organization, Breast Cancer Association involvement to benefiting area elementary schools with basic school supplies, this has been a 30 year charity giving tradition.
This years holiday event proceeds goes to the kids at Jefferson Elementary in Tampa. Cases of paper, thousands of writing supplies, cases of crayons and multitude of other supplies plus money for the schools to purchase for the students.
Thank You Mr Claus and all the Elves!
Another Great Bear Party
The Social Club had their monthly Nei ‘Bear’ Night Party with Bear partiers bringing in kids toys and bicycles to be given away to local charities. What a great entry cover!
All we can say is, it was packed with “Bear”ly a place to walk.

Alexis Mateo
This Star from the Rue Paul Drag Race TV show always puts a smile on our face! Not only is she beautiful but smart and funny too. Alexis husband is also Mr Gay USofA 2014. What a fun couple.
You Can Not Make this Up.
New Year’s Eve 2004 and we were at the Suncoast Resort working then bringing in the 2005 Holiday Year. It was extremely COLD that New Years Eve. There was a sold out hotel 3 day min stay weekend and as always a big name concert in the huge outdoor courtyard… then at 11 PM the unthinkable started to happen. There was a huge unexpected rain downpour that lasted all night.
The next morning after waking up pretty late (wink wink) we soberly drove back to our home in Tampa.
Going down our alley and parking in the garage we then went walking slowly into the backdoor of our home. The phone rang and it was a neighbor excited who asked, “Are you all OK and how is your home?”
We asked why and our friend said, “Go look at your front door!”
We walked outside and to our surprise the house next door had all burned down! The firemen told our neighbors that our home was saved because of our tin roof & aluminum siding. The firemen kept 1 truck spraying our house with the water hose. They also said the hard rain all night definitely helped too.
The homophobic meth’d out kid probably started his rented bungalow house on fire again, we told the firemen!
WOW the storm that night before turned out to be a real blessing!
