TAMPA PRIDE Meets Up with Tampa Mayor
Kurt King, Michael Wilson Mark Bias & Carrie West, members of the new TAMPA PRIDE, Inc Board had a planned sidebar meeting with Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn. The fun filled meeting centered on the new March 26th 2015 TAMPA PRIDE Vendor Festival and TAMPA PRIDE Parade on
7th Ave in GaYBOR/ Ybor City.
The mayor who has a very good reputation in the Tampa Bay GLBT community can’t wait to add more positive diversity events to City of Tampa’s calendar. Two years ago Mayor Buckhorn was invited to the St. Pete Pride Parade  and did walk down the Central Ave. parade route. That was when then St. Pete Mayor Bill Foster declined to participate in the Annual summer St Pete Pride Festival.
“Tampa has had a very good rating with the National Human Rights Campaign (HRC)” said the mayor, “Now we want to increase our cities score.”
“That is great, we think we have an event to make that happen.” chimed in Carrie West, President of TAMPA PRIDE.
The offer ‘ to be on TAMPA PRIDES tallest float’ was a remark the mayor had made last summer when talking of the groups intentions of creating a  Gay Tampa Parade.
“An estimate number attending the first TAMPA PRIDE spring event is around 14-18k.” we told the mayor.
” I just want to walk the parade and meet all the people.” he jokingly said at the casual informative meeting. This would be the first GLBT parade in Tampa for over fourteen years. People from all over the community and country are very excited about the beginnings of this historic celebration and of having the event in the springtime.
A lot of local & national banks, insurance companies, call centers, small Tampa area businesses and the  NFL Tampa Bay Buccaneers have become partners for the upcoming TAMPA PRIDE event.
Most recently the Hillsborough Board of County Commissioners changed their position of ‘Not acknowledging, promoting or financing anything GLBT in Hillsborough County.’ The 7-0  equality vote was 100% victory for Tampa’s large GLBT community. Further more the commissioners 2005 voiced vote of  little “g” and little “p” (for Gay Pride) voiced a new positive county change of diversity.
That isn’t without the many decade challenges led by GaYBOR District Coalition members for the county to change. Most recently the Hillsborough Commissioners added domestic partnership rights by adding a countywide Domestic Partner Registry.
TAMPA PRIDE is looking for Corporate Sponsorship and of course Individual/Couple Sponsorships also.
The TAMPA PRIDE group have open meetings the 2nd Tuesday of the month at Hampton Inn & Suites at 6 pm. Get yourself and friends involved with a great historical gay community event.
A GO FUND ME account has been set up to help TAMPA PRIDE events. Anyone can make a donation at what ever comfortable amount you want to give..is on all the TAMPA PRIDE websites.

It is holiday time with the fall kick-off of the Halloween season, then Thanksgiving onto Christmas season.. No more Daylight Savings Time, night falls much earlier in the afternoons, and cooler weather is now upon us. Time to dig out the super favorite sweatshirts, snuggly sweaters, and big boy pants! Yes, days have its great warm days but the cool nights are what changes our attitudes and wardrobes.

You dig them out of the closed door cabinet only to find that great romantic or scary or supernatural or sci-fi or cult classic.

We are asking all our readers, “What is Your Must See Annual Movie?

You Can Not Make this Up.

The year was 1997. MC Film was located on Kennedy Blvd. in Tampa.  Mark had just walked in with a Domino Pizza. There was Manny Alveraz. the promoter of Mecca Ballroom and Alan Kahana, the owner of the infamous looking night club, the Castle. Over simple fun conversation during the impromptu pizza party an party theme idea came up.
The new English atomically correct Billy Doll craze was just hitting Tampa Bay. We planned the official Tampa Bay “coming out” party for celebrity doll, Billy. That night there was a huge line waiting for the doors to open. Inside there was a benefit for the MC Arts Foundation. The Gay Youth Foundation was set up by Mark & Carrie giving Tampa Bay GLBT Youth a chance to experience positive GLBT events that included Gay Days at Disney, TBPAC Broadway and Jobsite Tickets, Entry to Lowery Park Zoo, Busch Gardens and the Rainbow Youth Prom.
The MEN of MECCA dancers were dressed in Billy costume wear. Billy doll Give-Aways, best chest contest, bring your Billy Doll for a free drink. All hosted by Miss Stephanie Shippae and South Beach’s DJ Rick Mitchell. The party was in full swing when all of a sudden Manny walked up and said “Your not going to believe what is going on outside!!!”
We walked outside and there were ALL the Local TV stations shooting LIVE!! After giving TV interviews we all walked back inside and toasted a drink to an idol doll,Billy. OMG!!!!
    * Note he later had a Latin Boy Doll Friend named Carlos. He too was big with the junk!  Local talk show radio station did a live morning show all about Billy, the  doll.

Benefit at Jobsite Theater for Ybor Youth Clinic

Hello all,

I wanted to remind you of an upcoming fundraiser to benefit the Ybor Youth Clinic!

We all remember last year when Jobsite Theater dedicated their production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch to the YYC.  We received $10 from the sale of each ticket and generated $1,000 to support our cause, while having a great night out!  Well, they’re at it again this November and I invite all of you to join us for their November 7th performance of “Vampire Lesbians of Sodom.”

One of the longest running plays in Off-Broadway history, Vampire Lesbians of Sodom tells the saga of two fatally seductive vampiresses, a virgin sacrifice (Coco & Homo’s Zachary Hines) and her maker (veteran Jobsiteer Summer Bohnenkamp), whose paths first collide in ancient Sodom. Their bitter rivalry endures for nearly two thousand years with stops along the way in 1920’s silent movie Hollywood and contemporary Las Vegas. Moving between histrionics of classic horror cinema and the cheerful nastiness of the backstage melodrama of manners All About Eve, Vampire Lesbians sparkles with spectacle, homage and double entendre.

Jobsite’s production of Vampire Lesbians of Sodom features live music and burlesque/cabaret-style interludes under the music direction of J. Elijah Cho. Expect unique takes on traditional and contemporary song and dance, and a range of exotically silly acts that could range from fire-breathing to a chair dance.

“Busch makes it very clear that this was never meant to be performed as a traditional play but as a burlesque,” offers director David M. Jenkins. “We’re already putting together a list of possible songs and crazy skills the cast has so that as soon as we begin rehearsals we can play as an ensemble and see what shakes out.”

Some of Jobsite’s most successful and memorable productions have been focused around Halloween – from last year’s Macbeth to the monochromatic musical Gorey Stories to Clive Barker’s History of the Devil. Fans of last year’s season opener, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, will certainly not want to miss this drag-tastic romp of a burlesque that also features Spencer Meyers, who played Hedwig, as a vampire hunter hot on the heels of our heroines.
