Happy Birthday Miss Jude B. Goode. In true Judy style the Big Birthday party was held at the Hollander Hotel http://hollanderhotel.com/  in St. Petersburg. Judy with Pianoman (and WAVE Award Winner) Paul Thomas on piano performed for there family & friends. There was a fancy singing birthday candle on the cake. It’s still singing 8 days later!! LOL If you have not been to the Hollander Hotel yet…  treat your self and visit now. There is a very fun Cocktail Lounge & restaurant in the restored 1920’s hotel lobby. Behind the hotel they are putting the finishing touches on a new large pool and party area. Before we forget. JUDY YOU’re SO YOUNG FOR 60!!!!

You Can Not Make this Up

Years ago Carrie’s corp job had him traveling the Southeast US a lot. He was driving a rental car in Tennessee and decided to stop in Nashville West End near Vanderbuilt University and visit his Aunt & Uncle. His Uncle was the minister at a church there. Carrie stopped at a convieance store and was asking the clerk if he knew where the church was in the cul du sac neighborhood. There was a guy in line behind him who said that he lived next to the church.
 He said, “Give me a ride home and I will show you where the church is”.
On the way he pointed out the different universities and historic buildings. They were a couple blocks away when the guy pulled a gun out. Pointed it at Carrie and demanded his money. Carrie hit the gas then the breaks. The gun went off, blowing a hole in the roof of the rented car. The car ended up in a yard. The guy jumped out and ran away.
The police called me weeks later with a guy caught who did the same thing 2 weeks later. I said, “Yup that is the $%@*(@!!!”

12th Annual Flan Fest Competition, 2015 Winners Announced

         Marielly Torres-Santiago              Carmen Birriel         Michelle Faedo’s on the Go

Winners won hand-crafted plaques created by Ybor Market Vendor, Sarita Paccine, $600 in cash prizes, judge space for 2016 and best of all, bragging rights! 


Contestants all hoping to earn the title of BEST FLAN 2015, competed in the Flan Cook-Off Contest at the Ybor City Saturday Market’s 12th Annual Flan Fest on Saturday, February 28.

With smiles on their faces and stories in their hearts, contestants shared their special ingredients (some top secret) with the judges.  It was quickly discovered that they all shared one common ingredient, a dash of family heritage. Recipes have been shared through the generations, some dating back to Great, Great, Grandmothers.  Many continue to prepare the original recipe while others have added their own special touch.  
Flans representing nearly every culture and ranging in flavors from traditional to guava to coconut made it a tough job for the judges to choose their favorite creamy dessert.  Winners were selected in two categories, traditional and non-traditional and were judged on both taste and presentation. 

The Ybor City Saturday Market would like to thank all the volunteers, sponsors, entertainers, contestants, judges, City of Tampa, YES Team, Ybor City Saturday Market Vendors and Board Members for another year of SWEEEETTT SUCCESS!  Til next year…..
