We have great news to share regarding our years-long fight against illegal parking lots in our residential district. Last week, a 13th Circuit Appellate Judge resoundingly DENIED the appeal of a 717 Parking entity who had sued the City of Tampa and a local resident regarding City Council’s denial of a new parking lot in Historic Ybor City.
This is a HUGE WIN for us. In case you’ve forgotten (it’s been a while!), we have been at this fight for FOUR YEARS. Without the financial support of the community, this effort could not have been sustained for four years and thousands of hours and that support made the stellar legal representation by Michael Labbee, of Phillips, Hayden & Labbee a winning possibility. This victory is a small step at stemming the tide of blight that affects the Historic Ybor neighborhood in the form of private, dirt parking lots. This bygone use was promised to sunset decades ago, after the construction of the first City owned garage at Centro Ybor.
We thank you all for your support in this fight — and we will keep pushing the city forward for Ybor City!

A year ago, we were at a cocktail party. Here we met a very interesting contractor from Ocala, FL. He was telling us about the “Flying Palaces” that land at the private airport he was working at. These private planes come from around the world, with many for the Middle East. They pass customs very fast. Have very large armed security. It was interesting that they mostly only spoke 2 languages, Arabic and Spanish. After trumps flying palace gift, we did some more research on this. The private landing strip is called “Jumbolair Aviation & Equestrian Estates” It is also the largest, licensed, private runway in North America, at 7,550 ft x 200 ft. John Travolta lives and lands his Boeing 707 here. Maybe the larger Flying Palaces also land here?

BREAKING NEWS “Naples Pride’s Drag Performance is Protected Speech”
On May 12, in a 49-page order, District Judge John Steele referred to the city of Naples’ permitting restrictions on Naples Pride’s Pride Fest as “clearly invalid” under the First Amendment. In his order, Steele granted the preliminary injunction in part, saying Naples Pride’s drag performance is protected speech.

Hillsborough commissioners approve land swap deal to move HCSO headquarters to Brandon
Hillsborough County commissioners voted unanimously on Wednesday to move the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office headquarters from Ybor City to Brandon as part of a land swap deal. HCSO will move to the Grow Financial building in Brandon.

No mater what you call her… we all loved her cooking! There is a fun film on Netflix called “Nonnas” This week I was cooking my Grandma’s stuffed cabbage rolls for Carrie. No matter how hard I try they are never just like hers. Maybe it’s because I use premade sauce. LMAO More likely it’s because of the love she put into her cooking.
