“As Queer As You Want To Be” Austin dedicated a new permanent historical marker at Fourth Street and Colorado Street on Friday, recognizing the people, places and stories that shaped the city’s LGBTQIA+ history. The project was approved by Austin City Council in 2023 and was developed with input from LGBTQIA+ community leaders and city commissions. The marker highlights the community’s contributions, struggles and history, including Austin’s early LGBTQ+ rights organizing. Its dedication came about a month after the rainbow crosswalk at the same intersection was removed #NOH8

The Log Cabin Republicans announced that it would halt its support for the transgender community, calling itself an “LGB advocacy organization.”

Sunday, August 23, is National Cuban Sandwich Day

If you look at what’s pressed inside that Cuban bread, ham from the Spanish, salami from the Sicilians, roast pork from the Cubans, along with Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard from the German and Jewish community, you’ll get a glimpse of our make up as a city.
