There is a newsletter in the Stonewall National Archives from a Black Gay Caucus meeting in San Francisco in 1976. Forty one years later, the opening line rings as true today as ever before – “SILENT VOICES DO NOTHING TO END OPPRESSION.” The Black Gay Caucus addressed “the social, cultural and political concerns of black gays, both young and older alike.”
As one of the only museums in the U.S. devoted solely to preserving and sharing the proud culture and history of the LGBTQ community, our mission has and always will be committed to celebrating the diversity of our community. We give space for community dialogue and encourage opportunities for engagement across the lines of division. From literature to artifacts, Stonewall National Museum & Archives serves to protect our ever-important history so that future generations have an opportunity to learn, connect, and create societies that are far better than our past.

One late night we were at the Waffle House. In waked two guys we knew. The one is always very nice the other is a loud mouth jerk and a very mean drunk. The mean one was very drunk. When their food came he passed out face down in the plate. Then… he started to wake up. He thru up a little on to his plate. Then he actually took a bite of the food. In a very loud voice he yelled “This is the worst sh*t I have ever eaten.” His friend just said check please. To this day when ever he is rude to me I just smile and think of that night. LMAO
