From the MC Film Fest Mail Bag….

Hi everyone,
As some of you may know, I was chosen as one of Tampa Bay’s 10 Leading Men – sponsored by Blu Tampa Bay and Saks Fifth Avenue. The selection process for the 10 leading men was based on a variety of criteria, which include: community involvement, philanthropic efforts and personal style. On April 13, Tampa Bay’s 10 Leading Men will be hosting a fashion show followed by a silent auction at Saks Fifth Avenue in the West Shore Plaza. I, along with the 9 other Leading Men, will be strutting down the runway to raise money and awareness for our chosen charities. I’ll be representing my chosen charity, Pediatric Cancer Foundation (PCF), in hopes to raise enough money for the foundation to sponsor one child through a clinical trial to treat recurring Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).

About the Pediatric Cancer Foundation and Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
PCF is a non-profit organization dedicated to funding research to eliminate childhood cancer. They’ve partnered with the Sunshine Project to fund 18 children to receive treatment in this clinical trial. Typically participation in clinical trials is not covered by insurance and has to be funded privately. The cost of the ALL treatment for one child is $13,000.

If I can inspire each of my friends to purchase a ticket for $25, for the “Tampa Bay’s 10 Leading Men” event, we can raise enough money to sponsor a child’s treatment.

Families and Friends of Seminole Heights Use Hearts

and Feet to Fight Cancer

(Tampa, FL) – (3/28/11) – Walkers will go around the clock in the battle against cancer when the 2nd American Cancer Society Relay For Life® of Seminole Heights gets underway with teams and residents gathering at Hillsborough High School on April 1, 2011 at 6:00pm. Residents from Seminole Heights, Tampa Heights, Ybor City and the surrounding communities are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Relay For Life events are held overnight as individuals camp out with the goal of keeping at least one team member on the track at all times throughout the evening. Relay brings together friends, families, and people from all walks of life – all aimed at furthering the American Cancer Society’s efforts to save lives by helping people stay well, by helping them get well, by finding cures and by fighting back.

Team check in and registration will begin at 5:00pm with opening ceremonies slated for 6:00pm. A survivor dinner, luminaria ceremony, Relay For Life talent show, and theme laps will continue throughout the evening ensuring that participants have fun and stay energized.

“Relay is a unique opportunity for our community to come together to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember those we’ve lost, and fight back against the disease,” said Lauren McQueen of the American Cancer Society. “Many of the participants are cancer survivors, which serves as a reminder that Seminole Heights is not immune to this disease and that by participating in Relay, we are joining with the American Cancer Society’s efforts to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays,”” Ms. McQueen added.

Funds raised at Relay For Life of Seminole Heights are enabling the American Cancer Society to impact the lives of those touched by cancer within the community. Additional event information is available at http://www.relayforlife.org/seminoleheightsfl

The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer. As a global grassroots force of more than three million volunteers, we fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. We save lives by helping people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; by helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight. As the nation’s largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing about $3.4 billion, we turn what we know about cancer into what we do. As a result, more than 11 million people in America who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will be celebrating birthdays this year. To learn more about us or to get help, call us anytime, day or night, at 1-800-227-2345 or visit cancer.org.

Viva La GaYBOR!!

What a Great Green St. Patrick's Day in GaYBOR!!!

We spent the day unpacking 3 new lines of HOT Spring Swim wear lines at MC Film (on St Patty’s Day we go by McFilm) Around 4 pm we heard a band playing outside in this more than gorgeous weather. Over at Rock n Sports (changing to new name Blue Dog Bistro) they were hosting a private UCLA Basketball Alumni party. The group asked if it was OK to bring a band. Of course owner Franya said, yes.  You can just imagine the surprise when the Marching Band from UCLA with 50+ band members and 20 cheer leaders showed up. They played and performed beautifully on the 8th Ave Centro Ybor bridge above the streetcars. Our night started off at the newly opened Gay bar, Bradley’s on 7th. The place was packed wall to wall with everybody calling it Mc Bradley’s!!! At Hamburger Mary’s it was special Irish corn beef & cabbage by chef-bartender Brad on the menu. Up on stage was Miss Judy B. Goode dressed as a leprechaun.  The ongoing GaYBOR’s Got Talent with host Carlos Lopez filled Judy’s slot for the evening activities. After dinner everybody danced a jig down 7th Ave and headed to The Social.  Carrie made a joyous toast. “May you all live to 100 years old & may I be the last smiling face you see!”  Happy St. Patrick’s Day Everybody!!
