PRO SHOP PUB, 35 Years of Laid Back Fun
The areas oldest gay bar Pro Shop Pub in Clearwater had its 35th Anniversary Party and the crowds were huge. It is now the oldest gay bar in the state and one of the oldest in the country! Music was playing, people were dancing and a lot of people whom we knew were there to help celebrate its milestone. It is a laid back tourist and local staple in Pinellas County in the daytime or night time and a generous cold drink stop on the way home from the beach. Congratulations Steve and Pro Shop Pub staff

Local Executive Director Attends GLAAD Awards
On April 11, 2011 Lorraine Langlois, Executive Director of Tampa Bay’s Metro Wellness and Community Centers was the invited guest of GLAAD President, Jarrett Barrios at the 22nd annual GLADD Media Awards in Los Angeles. The event was hosted by Amy Poehler and Rashida Jones. Dolly Parton, Colin Farrell, Sean Hayes, Chris Colfer, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Allison Janey, Melissa Etheridge, Joel McHale, Kristin Dunst, and Chaz Bono were among the many celebrities who joined the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) as it honored Kristin Chenoweth, NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt, and the best in television journalism. A full listing of award recipients is available at http://www.glaad.org/releases/041111.
GLADD Media Awards recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community and the issues that affect their lives. The GLAAD Media Awards also fund GLAAD’s work to amplify stories of LGBT people and issues that build support for equality. One such story was that of Lisa Pond a healthy 39 year old, who while on vacation in Miami with her partner Janice Langbehn and their children collapsed and later died at Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital. Neither Langbehn nor their children were allowed to see Pond until nearly eight hours after their arrival at the hospital. The hospital refused to accept information from Langbehn about her partner’s medical history and informed her that she was not considered family. Janice Langbehn spoke at the GLAAD event where she was presented a special award by her son.
Metro Wellness and Community Centers is the largest HIV/AIDS service organization in West Central Florida and among the largest in the state. Of the media awards event, Langlois said: “GLAAD plays an essential role in our community presenting true stories and holds the media accountable. GLAAD presents images of the GLBT community accurately. This is a worthy entity to support, even at the local community level.” Langlois and GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios have been friends and colleagues for many years.
