You just never know what these guys will come up with next !!! This progressive and inovative Italian fare restaurant is named after BERNINI, the famous sculptor, architect and painter, Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini, of the late renaissance period (1598-1680). He is best known for being the founder of the Baroque style of art. Prints of many of his sculptures adorn the restaurant’s interior. The granite exterior is from the days past when it was the Ybor City Bank. The Summer Special Night Menu offers an upcoming Wild Game Dinner on June 23rd, a Smoker & Poker Night – July 21, and a Gulf Seafood Night  August 25th. Not an impersonal corporate chain restaurant it is completely independent, local with excitement and fun!
Read the story below about “Crazy June Disco Brunch” Over the past 4 years as GaYBOR members they are the first to say YES to GaYBOR Events. Don’t forget their $2.00 Finlandia Martini’s either! On your next trip to Ybor stop by & say Hi to the guys & their crazy fun staff!!!  Viva La GaYBOR

Sunday Morning Brunch with 70’s ‘ ABBA ‘
With the release of the ABBA Super Trouper Deluxe CD Edition release, Jason F., owner of Bernini’s Ybor and mgr. Bill Lyle said ‘ that was a reason ‘ for having a crazy summer party brunch event. Thus, Sunday’s Disco Party Brunch was formed for June Sundays and all set to the 70’s theme. Food, attire and drink!s  The select four course Sunday Florida brunch choices was a true spring morning delight.
We started with a glass of Prosecco Sparkling Wine (very tasty Italian squeezed grapes) and orange juice was on the side. For starters was a choice of Black Bean Crab Cakes (super delicious) and Jalapeno Oyster Quiche (super succulent). Onto the salad choices. We shared all the beginnings and chose the Bernini Spinach Salad with Mandarin Oranges and Goat Cheese( springtime refreshing) and the traditional Greek Salad. Both super yummy. More Prosecco was poured. Heck, the waiter just left the bottle! The DJ was spinning out the 70’s tunes and groups in large Afros, crazy glasses and bright polyester colorful shirts and outfits kept coming in. It was a retro back flash of time. Yes, I think I remembered living in a time with some of those same skirts and shirts. Then came the main course of Bistecca Caprese (grilled flank steak layered with roasted grape tomatoes, chorizo and fresh mozzarella topped with a poached egg), and a Blackened Red Snapper on toasted brioche with crispy pancetta and a poached egg.with homemade Hollandaise. This is a brunch!  Hey Father’s Day is coming!!!
The tables were all taken and the bar was still receiving belle bottom and bright nylon graphic shirt guests for early afternoon dining. The disco songs became more memorable and recent in our minds. Finishing off  the morning now early afternoon was our deserts of Banana Parfait  (just picked flavor) with nut crumbles and Creamsicle Panna Cotta with fresh mint and Mandarin oranges.
You have to walk that off and we did just that as we walked to work. Reservations are requested and with the crowds coming in, it is strongly recommended. www.Berniniofybor.com

Cuban Sandwich Shoooooow

The month long Tampa art event continues through June. So many businesses and organizations are taking part this year. The group had a participating artist and sponsor show Saturday night at the Grown Man Brand Studios at 6412 Central Ave in Tampa. Bubble machine spilling out bubbles atop the building lofting over the gallery entry to in a corner. A new garbage can full of fresh fruit sangria inside the first gallery was a huge centerpiece. It was a help yourself old college fraternity style friendship!
Tampa laureate poet and Tampa native, James Tokely re-read his majestic yet poignant poem he wrote about Tampa 20 years ago and had also read at the beginnings of The Cuban Sandwich Show then sponsored by the newly formed Artists and Writers Group. The main gallery room had a wall depicting scenes and buildings in Tampa all done by masking tape. Local Politicians, regional artists, business leaders and civic leaders were well among the number of attendees present.
“There are art venues happening all over Tampa this month.” said David Audett, director of the month long eclectic art event. “From theatre, story telling & BS sessions, art displays, film and live performances. We have tried to include it all. We are trying to introduce and draw in new audiences to art venues in all corners of Tampa”
Most events are free or have a small donation at the door for the event. www.artistandwritersgroup.com

Ybor City Sets Up For Jose Cuervo Challenge

The CuervoGames is a free festival for locals that are 21 and up that features an intense national competition where WipeOut meets American Gladiators, a special musical performance by B.o.B, tons of Cuervo Girls, Ride the Lime and of course… Jose Cuervo!

The Tampa edition of the Cuervo games will be held Saturday, June 18 at 7th Ave and 14th St. in Ybor City.

The CuervoGames competition tests the athletic ability and legendary skill of local competitors as teams of four complete a series of intense obstacles in a race against the clock to claim the local title and advance to the national finals.  Competitors will scale a 20-foot rock climbing wall as they’re drenched by rushing water in the Waterfall Climb, capture flags from the Barrel Roll Mayan Pyramid, survive the Agave Gauntlet’s passage of various obstacles, and finally brave any fear of heights to capture agave leaves 30 feet in the air during the Highwire Harvest.  The winning team will earn a free trip to the CuervoGames National Finals where they will proudly represent their hometown.

Here’s the line up for the CuervoGames Saturday, June 18, 2011 (times are subject to change):
