Baldwin Moves Closer to Run for U.S. Senate
U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., an out lesbian, said this week that she is likely to give up the relative safety of her House seat to run for the Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Herb Kohl, D-Wis. Baldwin said she’s unwilling to change her positions to satisfy the conventional wisdom that a progressive would have a tougher time winning statewide. “It is daunting these days the way people are personally demeaned for holding a view, and yet I fear good people won’t step forward and run for office if we don’t set an example,” Baldwin said.
