Interesting changes have occurred in the film industry the past 5 years. I have always been a movie nut focused on any and all GLBT themes. I have been in the “movie closet” for 40+ years but with that being said I still envision a better GLBT produced movie. One with realism, ambiance and truthful honest real settings. Even though I have over 8600 DVD and over 9,000 videos in collection I still wonder.

TO BE HELD IN TAMPA ON SEPTEMBER 10, 2011
(Tampa) – “Stand Up for Women Veterans,” a Stand Down, day-long event to provide outreach and services to women veterans, will take place Saturday, September 10th, 2011 at the Hunt Center at Al Lopez Park in Tampa, just north of the Raymond James Stadium.
Women now make up more than 15 percent of today’s active duty military forces.

Tampa Crossroads is organizing this collaborative effort to assist women veterans in our community.
Women veterans from throughout the Tampa Bay area will be provided assistance in food, housing, and employment, as well as health and mental health screenings, VA and Social Security benefits counseling, and access to a variety of other services such as makeovers, and manicures. The program includes a continental breakfast as well as lunch. Child care will be provided. Space is limited and reservations are required.

NORTON THEATRE AWARD HOSTS ANNOUNCE OPEN PUBLIC FORUM
The four theatres that hosted the inaugural Jeff Norton Awards for theatre excellence would like to invite the public to an open forum on Saturday, September 17 at noon at Stageworks new home at Grand Central. The subject of the forum is to provide an opportunity for anyone to voice concerns and suggestions about this bay area theatre tradition as it contemplates moving forward.
“It was clear that there were some that had very strong feelings about awards being named for Jeff at all,” said Todd Olson, American Stage’s Producing Artistic Director. “Last Monday ended up being such a positive night for the community, we’d like to find a way for all voices to be heard, and for more companies and artists to become involved. Making it as transparent as possible is the only way we can improve this traditional.”
“The Norton Awards represents another step towards building a world-class theatre community in Tampa Bay” said Stageworks Artistic Director Anna Brennen. “The Norton Awards, along with the relatively new Unified Auditions, have started to make that a reality, and we would like to make this event even more inclusive in 2012.”
This open forum will be free and open to all, and will convene at 12:00 noon on September 17th, at Stageworks’ new theatre — 1120 E Kennedy Blvd., Ground Floor, Suite 151 in West Bldg. Park FREE on Street or next to BP gas station on corner of E. Kennedy and Channelside Drive. (Behind Zelda’s)

Whimsical Enlightenment:
Workshops that Transform Entertainment into Spiritual Wisdom
Whimsical Enlightenment is a new series of workshops created by Tampa performer, writer and teacher Staci Backauskas. The first workshop, taking place Sunday, September 18th at Enchanted Spirits in Dunedin, uses the campy consciousness of The Wizard of Oz to help participants take the next step on their journey of self-discovery
“If you’re questioning where you stand in your life, searching for ways to be happier or wondering how you can have more peace, you’re a perfect fit for this experience,” says Staci. “You’ll discover the beliefs and perceptions that keep you from living the life you want and see your favorite characters from a fabulous new perspective.”
Staci says she wanted the inaugural workshop to be an experience where people in the gay community would feel comfortable. “We’re all searching right now,” she says. “There are so many changes going on and it’s the lies we tell ourselves, the meaning we assign to things, that make it so stressful. I wanted to select an iconic tale that appealed to the people of our community.”
Future workshops will focus on other films, television shows and books, including It’s A Wonderful Life, Star Wars, Catcher in the Rye, and The Real Housewives, as well as some of Staci’s own novels.
The workshop registration is $18 and is limited to 15 participants. Call 727-286-6279 to register.

Bio
It only took forty years for me to realize that everything in my life is designed to offer me a choice – to know more of who I am or to remain who I am not.
This journey has taken me down many different roads-all with the same goal. Everything I’ve done, from authoring eight books and becoming a minister to supporting others as a Life Coach and teaching creative writing, has helped me better know Source, because that’s the only way I can really know me. This has required an unraveling of the beliefs, perceptions, and thoughts I’ve held and a willingness to release them all.
All of our paths look different, yet they are so similar. I love supporting others in “knowing who they are by learning who they’re not” and share my experiences and insights in whatever form they take – books, blogs, movies, workshops, performances, songs. And I do my best to infuse light, love and laughter into every step of the journey.
