Men and boys put on their wives, girlfriends and even co workers pink bras for the ‘Put on Your Pink Bra Event ‘ at Gaspar’s Grotto Sunday in historic Ybor City getting ready for the Walk Against Breast Cancer 5K, October 22 in downtown Tampa. Singing Stone Gallery owner, Nataly Balk and Gaspar’s Grotto owner, Shere Shiller were volunteer team leaders. Every three minutes a woman will be diagnosed with breast cancer. In the United States, 1 out of 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer during her lifetime, but the 5 year survival rate is 98% if caught early. Mark your calendar for Saturday, Oct. 22 at 9 a.m. for the American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.” Call your family and friends, organize a team and decorate a pink bra! Join thousands making up a sea of pink bras as people walk 5K from the St. Pete Times Forum to Bayshore Boulevard.
This is a fun, community oriented event (strollers welcome!) where everyone is encouraged to put on a pink bra! The pink bra serves as an empowering symbol of how personal the fight against breast cancer can be. Walkers are encouraged to throw bra decorating parties and carry their bras to raise awareness and money for the American Cancer Society. The money raised goes toward research, awareness and screenings.
