Guys – if you ever wanted to attend a Sweep-n-Sleep, make it this one! We need to see some smiling faces Friday night For the new folks – we sweep a lot of the mulch and dirt that the weather displaces throughout the week. We pick up some trash. And we say goodnight to the birds! We have some brooms. If you have a blower, though, bring it!
We have any great memories of Franko and his restaurant “The Laughing Cat”. Originally across the street then moved into the former Street Car Charlies on 15th and 8th ave. Franko was quite the individualist and so much fun!!! The food was unbelievable and the lunch buffet was the BEST IN TOWN!!! Franko taught us to start the buffet with a big handful of mixed salad greens on your plate first. Then add everything else. He would say that his sauces made the best salad dressing you will ever have. He as right and we still do this today at home.
A Easy recipe so good we had to share it!!!
We all know how hard it is to cook for 1 or 2 people. Here is a fun & easy recipe for left overs. In our home there is always left-over spaghetti. The next day try making this Spaghetti casserole. Simply lightly grease a casserole dish. Put ½ the left overs in the dish and spread out. In a separate bowl mix together 1 cup cottage cheese and ½ cup sour cream. Then spread this over the spaghetti. Next make a layer with the remaining spaghetti. Top with grated mozzarella cheese. Bake in a 400 degree oven for 25 to 30 minutes just until the cheese starts to bubble. That is it!!!

CONGRATULATIONS to The Ybor City Museum Society
From The Ybor City Museum Society… Today, we gratefully celebrate our 40th Anniversary! On July 7, 1982, Ybor City Museum Society was incorporated by a group of dedicated volunteers whose passion it was to preserve and share the unique story of Ybor City, its cigar industry, and the immigrant community whose influence is still evident today in Tampa’s diverse culture. Since then, YCMS has created exhibits and programs for our community, served as a Citizen Support Organization (CSO) for the Ybor City Museum State Park, and most recently, built the Tampa Baseball Museum at the Al Lopez House. We are proud to be a part of our National Historic Landmark District and Tampa Bay’s cultural community. Thank you to our members, donors, grantors, park staff, volunteers, and many others who have supported our organization in so many ways.
Photo is of Rafael Martinez-Ybor next to the bust of his great-grandfather, Vicente Martinez-Ybor. Rafael was instrumental in working with the state to preserve the Ferlita Bakery so it could become a museum. A plaque was added in 2019 to commemorate Rafael’s four decades of service to our organization.
