Sarasota Pride, #28

Sarasota Pride just had its 28th Annual Pride Festival. Plenty of vendors, entertainment but lacked on food vendors for the event. Construction by the city could be one of the reasons. A limited amount of vendors were given access because of construction in the area. Lucky for the Festival coordinators, the city had finished the street and park construction 1 week before the planned Pride event. That we know is a hair pulling & bite your nails scenario.

On stage were local female impersonation performances, The women rock band- Cheaters, Blue Apron Band & more.

The festival is always growing and it represents a good portion of Sarasota area. A super outdoors day had local downtown residents walking through the festival area. Accepting is a key part of the charm Sarasota community brings to the lower bay area.

Kudos to Cindy Barnes and the Board of Sarasota Pride.

Come Out With Pride Orlando, Humongous

This years Come Out With Pride Orlando 2017 was again a record breaker. An estimated 150,000 attended the festival and congrgated around Lake Eola Park in downtown Orlando for another great LGBT Pride gathering. This year the weather was on Orlando’s side when a Hurricane Matthew disrupted last years Pride and was rescheduled to November. Big corporate names were involved. NASA, Disney, Delta Airlines, Macy’s, Orange County, Wells Fargo, City of Orlando, Sprint, Marriott and so many more. TAMPA PRIDE is a proud partner with our sister city, Orlando!

As a great bystander and TP vendor, I noticed colorful metallic streamers being shot out of a dozen rocket canisters along the parade route in the Macy’s group. I recalled the shooting metallic streamers in Tampa Pride Diversity Parade 2015 in Ybor City that shut down transformers and electricity along the parade route. It was a colorful & beautiful non the less.

Bands, dignitaries, Rainbow Flags, national & local organizations, half naked people, and major corporations had Orlando on their sleeve one year after the Pulse Night Club massacre. It was very visible and still on everybodies mind.

Simple Fun and Colorful Excitement was in the air. Pics tell a story of the great economic successful welcoming weekend with over an estimated $55 million in Orlando area economic boost.

Fran Haasch, An Unsung Hero

If you are a motorcyclist in the Tampa Bay area you know Fran Haasch, a local celebrity Tampa Bay attorney. The firm Fran Haasch Law Firm is known for their committed efforts in many local area non profits with involving motorcycle clubs and area non profit Food Pantry’s.

Last Sunday was the 6th Annual TMR Pink Ride, “A Ride For A Cause”, a motorcycle run that benefited My Hope Chest, a national 501 c3 non profit, that helps cancer survivor with breast reconstruction costs.

A couple of hundred motorcyclist, friends, family members and clubs collectively came to register and take part in the 8am morning cancer fall fundraiser motorcycle run starting in Ybor City. It was a beautiful day and the weather truly cooperated with the benefit event.

The 9th Annual Food Drive to benefit F.E.A.S.T. Food pantry is Friday, Nov 3rd, Noon – 9pm in pam Harbor.

It’s time to Walk to End HIV and this year’s event will be EPIC!

EPIC (Empath Partners in Care) is Tampa Bay’s largest HIV services organization created from the merger of ASAP (AIDS Services Association of Pinellas) and Tampa’s Francis House.

Together we serve more than 2,000 HIV-positive clients throughout Tampa Bay, touch the lives of more than 10,000 people in our area, and provide:

More than 2,500 free rapid HIV tests each year

Pharmacy services

Educational resources and outreach

Support services including counseling, financial help, food and personal needs pantries

As a past supporter of EPIC (ASAP or Francis House) we know you value this specialized HIV care. We invite you to lace-up your walking shoes and Walk to End HIV by raising funds at the 14th Annual Tampa Bay AIDS Walk and 5k, December 9 at beautiful Vinoy Park in downtown St. Petersburg.

Raise funds by telling your friends and family about why EPIC and its programs and services matter to you. Tell them about the event and ask them to make a donation in person, online through emails you can send or linking to your walk webpage through your social media sites. You will have all the tools to be successful.

You Just Can Not Make This Up

There was this guy who dressed up like Batman. He drive his motorcycle thru Ybor City to the delight of everyone. One night a friend and me stopped at the Wooden Nickel in North Tampa. We had his dog with us so we put the car window down a little. When we cam back to the car the friendly dog had jumped on the door lock. Opps the keys were inside too. My friend was putting his arm into the car when from behind us in a deep voice we heard…. “HAVE A PROBLEM CITIZENS?” We turned and there was the Ybor Batman. Staying in charter Batman pulled the window and we got the keys. We asked Batman “How did you know we needed help?” Batman said “I’m everywhere citizens.” Then jumped on his bike and drove off. We looked at each other and said “Holy Cow did that just happen? Did Batman just save us
