We just love the 10:30 drag show at Hamburger Mary’s! When the crazy tall 7′ blonde Daphne Ferraro is the hostess you know it’s going to be over the top! At one point in her show, Daphne calls guests up on stage to tease them & to do a friendly shot. She points to a muscle man & said, “You… you gotta come up here!!!” Daphne really gave it to him & he was a really great sport. You can just imagine the surprise after the show when she learned who he was……Chris Hovan, Tampa Bay Buccaneer Defensive Lineman! http://hovanlive.com Chris was out in Ybor for the night with his beautiful wife, Jaimi & this was their first time at Hamburger Mary’s. You just never know who will be at Mary’s!!! Over at Steam Fridays @ The Honey Pot the first people we run into were Kathy & Juanita, owners of the Famous South Tampa Restaurant, Pach’s Place http://www.pachsplace.com with set designer, Mathieu Stanoch.  There was a birthday party going on in the VIP area stage left for recently relocated local banker, Walter Giovanni! What a fun group of people. Club owners, Steve Donahue, Ernie Webb and  Stephen Moss invited us back stage to meet Super Singing Star, LUCIANA before her concert!!!! http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=265276590166217  Luciana was one of the nicest young rising stars we have ever met! Originally from England she now resides in Los Angeles. She brought her hair & make- up artist with her. Now that ROCKS!!! Also back stage was our good friend Andy Bell of ERASURE. Andy was just back from his South American tour. We had a appointment to meet with him the next day. He is the creative director of Beige Magazine  www.beigeuk.com  from London, England. Dean will be spending a week in GaYBOR & writting about his escapades in the upcoming fall magazine. What started out was a quiet night sure did turn out to be  quite interesting.     In 2008 the documentary film “Chris & Don” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjG9iyW-vyI was released. This documentary film is about the 30 year love story between famed gay writer Christopher Isherwood & his much younger lover, Don Bachardy. Christopher wrote the book “The Berlin Stories” which inspired the classic musical film, “Cabaret.”  In “Chris & Don,” Don said that Chris didn’t like Cabaret & especially didn’t like Liza in the star role. Now in 2011 the BBC has come out with their adaptation of “The Berlin Stories” called, “Christopher AND HIS KIND.”   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_and_His_Kind_(television_film) It is easy to see why Chris didn’t like the Hollywood Musical Cabaret version. We recommend that you first view “Chris & Don” then the new BBC release. In “Christopher AND HIS FRIENDS”, Don Bachardy plays the voice of Christopher. There are many actual photos, objects & the story line followed closely what Don said in the documentary. BRAVO to the BBC for producing this film! Two thumbs up! A must see film…..Mark & Carrie
