Hoffman Porges Gallery reopens in Ybor City-Opening Gala to support Homeless female veterans
Ybor City, FL – The historic Hoffman Porges Gallery on 7th Avenue in Ybor City will reopen on September 9th, with a redux of the “Virgins & Vixens” show.
The Ybor icon, opened in 1990 by Marcie Hoffman, was recently purchased by retired Air Force General Dave Scott and his wife Jill who is also an Air Force veteran. Both Dave and Jill serve on a host of local committees and organizations that support and promote the arts in Ybor including the Adamo Drive Mural Project, Ybor City Development Corporation and the Ybor Arts Association.
The Gallery grand reopening show on Friday September 9, will celebrate women throughout the ages. All proceeds from the opening and subsequent VIP reception on September 10th will be donated to the Athena Program, a project of the local non-profit organization Tampa Crossroads, Inc., in support of homeless female veterans in our community. The ATHENA Home for female veterans was the first program to open in the State to serve honorably discharged female veterans in a gender specific environment. Tampa Crossroads continues their work to assist at-risk veterans and their families.
“I am just so pleased to be on the bow wave of Ybor’s art renaissance”, states Jill. “Awakening the Hoffman Porges legacy is something that will both promote and support the arts in our local Historic Landmark District’. Partnering with the Ybor Art Association (YAA!) and Tampa Crossroads gives us a unique opportunity to give back immediately.” “As a founder of the YAA! Group we have consistently promoted the return of fine art to Ybor City. With the re-opening of this historic gallery we are encouraged that the community does indeed support a cultural awakening” said Sara Romeo. “What an honor to work with Dave and Jill to both re-open the gallery and support our local military troops who are struggling after serving honorably” says Romeo.
Event: Friday Sept. 9, 2011 from ___ to___pm and Saturday Sept. 10 for the VIP Reception 6-10pm
Where: Hoffman-Porges Gallery 1919 7th Ave– Ybor City

Homophobic Hate Crimes Spreading Throughout Brazil

Latinos and LGBT Target In CA
Houndurs murders LGBT
Black Lesbian attacked POLICE DID NOT DO THERE JOB
In conversations with groups such as the Anti-Defamation League , the Southern Poverty Law Center , the Center for the Prevention of Hate Violence, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Missouri Highway Patrol and the U.S. Attorney’s Office, all spoke of a wave of hate they see stirring across America. Among their findings and concerns: · Hate crimes and hate incidents are woefully underreported. Some states don’t report them at all.
· The number of hate crimes committed against Hispanics (and those perceived to be immigrants) has increased each of the past four years.
· Hate crimes committed against individuals because of sexual orientation have increased to their highest level in five years.
· The internet and social networking sites have been a boom to white supremacy and the growth of racism and organized hate groups.
· Few hate crimes are ultimately prosecuted as hate crimes. These facts and trends don’t occur in a vacuum, but rather in the context of a broader social milieu that feeds into what some call the marketing of hate. IF ANY OF THIS EMAIL SEEMS HARSH … ask Ryan Skipper or Craig Cohen what harsh feels like to them Seeing LGBT people who could help but instead pretend or ignore the facts that LGBT people are being killed fighting for them to be free… and then forgetting the the life they lost by Put a big TARGET on THERE BACK AND “COMING OUT” Or as i like to say BREAKING FREE from the CAGE of Shame and FEAR…That is harsh to me

Long time, no see. Mike and I are working on this year’s Gecko Ball
in Gulfport and we remembered enjoying your company at the Ball last
year (memento attached). Geckos in Wonderland last year was a blast,
but this year THE LIZARD OF OZ promises to be even more fun. Just
wanted to pass along a personal invitation to the Ball this year. I
believe you’ve already received our press release about the Ball, but
for good measure, I’ve attached a copy of it, as well as a jpg of the
poster for THE LIZARD OF OZ.
We are selling tickets online this year to make it easier for all our
friends in Tampa and elsewhere. There is a ticket sales link on the
homepage of www.GulfportMA.com. Let your friends know too!
If you guys could make it, we’d love to see you there. We stopped in
to see you in Ybor a few weeks ago, but neither of you were there.
Maybe next time. Meanwhile, hope you are doing well, and hope to see
you at The Gecko Ball.
(Not sure which is the best email address for you guys personally, so
I sent it to the 3 addresses I have.)
Take care,
Daniel
