What a terrific season of great performers it’s been for the Jazz Ybor Series in association with the Tampa Jazz Club, including Kevin Mahogany, Ira Sullivan, and the Marty Morell Trio and of course the inaugural Ybor Jazz Festival.
The final Sunday afternoon concert of the season is;
THE JOHN LAMB QUINTET, “FURTHER CONVERSATIONS”
Sunday, April 17, at 3:00, at the Mainstage Theatre, HCC Ybor City Campus.
One of the Bay Area’s premier musicians, JOHN LAMB was bassist for the Duke Ellington Orchestra in the 1960’s, and has worked with generations of the greatest jazz artists. His recent recording, “Conversations North of the Border,” was made with some of the best musicians in Toronto, where John has an avid following. After the cd was debuted on WUSF, 89.7, it became the #1 most played album of 2010 on WUSF’s “All Night Jazz.”
Here is your chance to experience that music, played by
JOHN LAMB and his hand-picked group of top players from the Bay Area. GREG NIELSEN, trombone; AUSTIN VICKREY, saxophone; TONY CASTELLANO, piano; and STEVE BUCHHOLZ, drums, will join the virtuosic and charismatic bassist for “Further Conversations.”
“The ‘Conversations’ cd had an immediate appeal, with a great energy and camaraderie among the musicians, that made it a favorite all year long,” says WUSF’s Bob Seymour. “And this is just the right group to present the spirit and vibrancy of those tunes in a live concert setting.”
