2026 iPride Cup

The Suncoast Softball League is proud to be hosting the 2026 iPride Cup on Memorial Day Weekend in Tampa. We are working hard with International Pride Softball to make sure all Division A/B and Legends C/D players have an amazing experience. Team Registration is now live! If your team is not able to participate but you still want to play, we have set up a “free agent” list. Our host hotel is the Tampa Marriott Water Street, right on the Tampa Riverwalk and one block from the Streetcar Station.
Printed Player Programs will be provided to celebrate the inaugural iPride Cup in Tampa. This is a fantastic opportunity to promote your member city tournaments, businesses, sponsors, and teams that will be participating. Contact Ron Frank at producer@suncoastsoftball.org for more information

America’s First Gay President

America has probably already had a gay president and vice president.
For years in Washington, two of the most powerful men in American politics lived together, wrote affectionate letters to each other, and were widely regarded by their peers as a couple.
Before James Buchanan became the 15th president in 1857, he spent decades in Washington politics as a congressman, senator, diplomat, and secretary of state. During much of that time, he shared a home with Senator William Rufus King of Alabama. Neither man ever married.
Political opponents mocked the pair with nicknames like “Miss Nancy” and “Aunt Fancy.” President Andrew Jackson referred to King as Buchanan’s “better half.” The jokes were public and persistent.
When King left Washington in 1844 to serve as U.S. minister to France, Buchanan wrote him a letter that sounded more like heartbreak than routine friendship.
“I am now solitary and alone,” Buchanan wrote. “I have gone a-wooing to several gentlemen, but have not succeeded with any one of them.”
King went on to become vice president under Franklin Pierce in 1853. Buchanan became president four years later. Author https://www.facebook.com/BilBrowning

Vicente Ybor House

So far, in the East Tampa CRA, there have been no new affordable housing construction projects breaking ground with CRA funding. That could change soon. One project that is close to being ready for construction is the Vicente Ybor House at 2914 N. Nebraska. It would replace a car wash with 20 affordable housing units. It’s a good project that still needs approval from the East Tampa CRA Citizens Advisory Committee and City Council sitting as the CRA. East Tampa desperately needs affordable housing and projects such as this one need to be green lighted soon.
