Dear Fellow Ybor City Enthusiasts,

In 1980 was our first visit to Ybor City. Yes, the two kids in the photo above are Mark & Carrie. From that very first experience we fell in love with the Diversity & Magic of Historic Ybor City. Over the next 30+ years we visited Ybor City often & lived just a short 1/2 mile away.
Mark & Carrie’s current connection to Ybor City
In 2007 we moved our store, MC Film Fest (founded in 1989) to Ybor City. Soon together with other community leaders & business people, we founded The GaYBOR District Coalition in Historic Ybor City. This group has 200+ Gay & Straight members, with 70+ in Ybor City. All members working together to improve & promote Ybor City. We are also members of the Ybor City Chamber of Commerce and several other chambers & organizations outside of Ybor City. Carrie is active in the Y.C.D.C. (Ybor City Development Corp) and is a Commissioner on the Barrio Latino Commission. Together Mark & Carrie write “Dishing with Mark & Carrie”. This newsletter was started in 1995. Today, thanks to the internet, facebook & RSS feeds it is read by over 34,000+ worldwide weekly.
We asked ourselves this YBOR CITY question.
What can we do to help improve Ybor City?
To answer this question we first took a deep breath then tried to step back & take a look at the whole picture. What we saw was…. Many groups or circles of people make up the Diverse Community of Ybor City including: Artists, Business, Churches, Cigar Aficionados, DJ’s, Drag Queens, Dubstep, Social Community Centers, Historians, Hotels, Krewe’s, Motorcycles, Musicians & Bands, Organizations, Rental Event Venues, Restaurants, Shopping, Skateboarders, Tattoos, African American Bars, Gay Bars, Straight Bars & more.
The things all these group have in common is….
1st They are all good people who call Ybor City Home!
2nd They are all trying to promote Ybor City to their friends!
3rd Together they/we make up the Wonderful Diversity of Ybor City that everybody LOVES!!!

Cross Promotions!!! Many of the visitors to Ybor City are interested in several if not many of these groups’ activities. It’s time for one main calendar where everybody’s events are welcome. With the help of co-partner Will McKee at Tampa Bay Interactive in Ybor City, we came up with this great unique idea…
