St. Pete Pride… SUPER
Congratulations to a very successful St. Pete PRIDE WeekendEric Skain, St. Pete Pride executive board director, St Pete Pride’s Board of Directors and all the hundred of PRIDE volunteers get a high community foot stomping, “SUPER Kudos.”
The NEW additions and changes to this years PRIDE event worked out well. First the Saturday afternoon Pre PRIDE Parade Party was contagiously strong and super fun. Entertainment in the fenced in area around Georgie’s Alibi had thousands revving up for the forth coming night parade with high libatious energy.
The total parade was a gracious change with another PRIDE first
St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman led the parade, another St. Pete PRIDE first. Also 2 St Petersburg City Council GLBT members were also in the parade. Councilwomen Amy Foster and Darden Rice.  Past St. Pete mayors- Rick Baker & Bill Foster, both refused to be in the very profitable city event in the past 10 years. Last year in 2013, Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn walked in the rainy PRIDE parade.
The 2014 Grand Marshals Jay Aller, Councilwoman Darden Rice and Organization PFLAG directors John & Nancy Desmond started the parade right after the 100’s of Dykes on Bikes.
A very special guest in the PRIDE parade was Grandma Ruth, 97 years old owner of the Pro Shop in Clearwater. She has been in the past St. Pete Pride parades. There were over 300 parade entries from political candidates, organizations, walking drill teams- STP & ROTC, businesses, bank & life insurance call centers and of course Wells Fargo’s team of horse and stagecoach in this years PRIDE parade.
The estimated crowd was over 185,00 for the beautiful night parade and the new Sunday PRIDE Vender Show on Central Ave. attracted another 50,000 commented St Pete Pride officials.
That estimated to an bottom line profit for St Petersburg of $12 – $14 million dollars positive impact dollars for the city from this PRIDE weekend.
All in all the long Gay PRIDE weekend went without a hitch. Great rain free skies, plenty of cooler night air and a ‘Proudness’  from old to young GLBTA revelers and the many diversities in and around our GLBT community.

GaYBOR District Coalition Float

The new GaYBOR President Michael “Sheriff” Wilson and GaYBOR  members put on a great show for the St Pete Pride Parade. The float was covered in Rainbow boas, Rainbow flags and 60 Rainbow PRIDE decorated floatees. Being the first night parade for St. Pete Pride was not a deterrent for the GaYBOR partiers. The group has participated in the past  6 years Roughrider’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Ybor CIty. Night parades are different but the lights were on and the glitter flew.

Metro LGBT Welcome Center

The Grand Showing of the new Metro LGBT Center in St Petersburg on Central Ave. The new center will house GLBT young room, Grand Central Board and an welcome center in St. Pete.
This is the third GLBT Welcome Center in the United States.
The rooms need to be repaired with donations already giving air condition to the new facility. Hundreds of donors, sponsors and area community leaders came to see the progress of the new future Welcome Center.
Metro Wellness & Community Center CEO, Lorraine commentesd they are in need of donations and people or businesses can have a room plaquered with the company or people’s name for each of the rooms to be finished.
“The air conditioning just was finished installed and turned on for the open house today.” said Lorraine. “We have tenants that are moving in next month so we really need to act and get the needed donations for finishing this Welcome Center.”
Another great undertaking by Metro Wellness.
To donate or to help and volunteer services contact Metro Wellness & Community Centers in St. Pete.

Around St. Pete’s PRIDE

It is nice to see a Rainbow Flag flying in a neighborhood if you are GLBT. An eye conscious awareness instilled in GLBT individuals. Especially it is true during PRIDE month! Outside of the Grand Central District, the gay neighborhood in St. Pete, we found Rainbow flags flying at the St Petersburg City Hall put up by Mayor Rick Kriseman on Friday in celebrating PRIDE Diversity Week.
Other flying Rainbow flags were found at downtowns Craftman Building, Artist’s Graffics in downtown’s Central Ave. district, Lou & Larry’s very charming and tasty  Dolce Desert Bar at 937 Central Ave, the Amsterdam Bar 1049 Central Ave. run by John Cukllen & Zoie Torres with Rainbow beer taps bragging slogan- Biers* Vins* Vibe and can’t be missed an outside 50′  wall painted Rainbow flag and Enigma Bar on Central Ave. had a  Rainbow flag on the turn-about,

You Can Not make this Up.

It was the week before St. Pete Pride and we were at out store,  MC Film at the Suncoast Resort. The phone rings and it’s an AID’s Organization that we had never heard of before. They were asking for a donation for a basket that they were going to raffle off at Pride Vender Show. We said, ” sure stop by the store and pick up a gift certificate.”
They asked could we just mail it to them because they were too busy to pick it up. We said that we liked to meet the people that we’re giving too.
Hesitantly she said, “OK.” The little lady walked in & said “My car is running out side where is the gift certificate?”
We laughed and gave it to her.  The next year our phone rings and it’s her again. This time she asks if we could replace the gift certificate from last year. The one we gave her last year had expired. We asked why it was not used. She told us that they never got around to giving out the basket and were going to raffle it off again this year.
We asked her, ” so the people who bought raffle tickets last year were lied too?” The basket was not given out. She than told us, ” they didn’t tell them what year the basket was going to be given out.” We said “NO!.”
Then we were called every name in the ‘Not So Nice’ book by these 2 crafty old con artists. Their little thieving game was over because we told all the other shop owners at Suncoast Resort and in our newsletter back then! Sorry we don’t have their pictures.
So many con artists even in the GLBT community!  Be Aware!!!
